These are some pictures of the conversion I did of the AMT D8H kit. It has been back-dated to about 1958. The engine is naturally aspirated with a gasoline powered pup starter motor. The blade has been converted to a type 8 angling cable lifted blade. The winch was scratch built. I was fortunate enough to pick up 2nd place in Heavy Commercial at both the London IPMS and the Toronto Megacity shows for this model Thanks for looking Carl

Now that is a great looking machine, love the detail and weathering, and such a great idea to rewind the clock and build something a little earlier than the kit was, Great Job

Thanks Guys Dan ...I used the kit track but I shaved about 2mm off of each grouser plate. I used a dremell witha milling bit that looks like a saw blade. They still look out of scale but not quite as bad as the original Here's a shot of the winch before it got mounted on the dozer Thanks Carl

Thanks agian guys Alan, The winch is scratch built mostly from stuff in the parts box. Here is a exploded view picture I did up during the build phase. It sort of shows were the bits came from. If I had been a little sharper I would have extended the axle through the hub so that I could adjust the cable tension without having to reach inside the drum with a dental pick. This is a shot of the pup starter motor and the main engine block This dozer was probably the most challenging model I built. A large portion of the build time was devoted to researching the subject. It is apart of the hobby that I enjoy doing. Time well wasted. Thanks Carl

And here is a shot of the blade conversion in the early phase on construction. The yellow plastic is from the amt while the white stuff hs been added. It is mostly Evergreen sheet and rod Thanks Carl

Thanks everyone for the kind words. Oliver , Those are great photos. That old Cat looks like it may have done some time with the military. What a great study for weathering it is. Thanks for sharing. Those shows where the old boys play with their old toys are lots of fun. We have a couple here every year when we get to see, hear and smell the old iron in action. Eventually I plan to have this D8 in a diorama with a Bantam swing shovel and a scratch built gravel crusher. As it progress over the winter I will post some more pics. Here is a shot of the bantam. It is a spec cast diecst that I have weathered and added an operator. I relaced the cables with braided fishing line. thanks for looking Carl
