my least favortie truck that we had was a mack r model for a day. my dad had a freightliner and he wanted to drive a r model since we sold the gold mack r. so are driveway was down on rocks and there was a guy right across from where are rented shop is and he asked the owner because he worked for migill transport and drove that r model when he worked there if he could get gravelle for are drive way. next day i was waiting for the freightliner to come home i heard a s****ey mack r come down the road. i went with my dad to get gravelle the next day. it was a peice of you know what. the stack was bent a littel, not working wet kit we had to shovel the gravelle out and it was not the trailers fault it was the macks. cab had lots of rust. door was bent and my dad said the only mack he will drive is the r model that we had that he owned. he sald we could of went out to chat feild to chucks , my dads freinds and then go to fisher branch and ask if we can drive are mack!!!

50's sumthin Mack lt or ltl cant remember. this old dog had part of a floor pretty much a milk crate and a lawn chair for a seat no heat ,no side windows so plenty of ac,the ancient camelback suspension was so bad the rearends tried to pass you in the corners, you held the brownie in gear with your foot goin down hill and hope it stayed in goin up,had a6000 gallon railroad tank on the back,at the time i drove it we had 35 miles of logging road to water if you started by 400 in the afternoon by daylite you might be done.luckily for us it got burned up in a forest fire over one weekend, bad news it burned up our job and about 65,000 acres more of private and usfs timber.mikey

Thinking back, I have to say that a truck I loved had a component I hated. In 1996-97 I started my career. I drove for a small company leased to Horizon Freight System. They haul containers, and in that line of work, there is plenty of old iron. I loved the 1979 International Transtar 2 I drove sometimes. It had an NTC 350 that was turned up, and a 13 spd. What I hated was the air-assist steering. It acted the same as air wipers, where it would periodically stop while you turned the wheel. Otherwise, nice truck. That was the only thing I disliked about that truck.
I remember a 1980 something GMC Brigadier Dump I drove after that. 8V92 with a 15 spd, but it just was not powerful enough for hauling asphalt around the hills of Pittsburgh, PA. It was a beat up truck. If anyone knows the name Hilltop Paving, it was their "big" truck. A tandem axle. All have since been replaced with Triaxle Mack R models(after I left of course, LOL). My last truck still tops my most hated truck list. That of course being my blue T600.

What's goin' on... Well I guess it'd be a bad oman to complain about the truck I currently drive/work out of so I'll whine about the truck I drove at my last job. It was a E350 Ford w/ a Supreme Body former Ryder truck w/ a pathetic 5.4 that was governed at 63mph. Before we got it I was the only trailer mechanic in the shop maintaining aprox 25 tipper trailers 3 roll off trailers 3 walking floors and 10 rented van trailers. After I was hired the company grew twice it's size. Now 60% of the trailers (and several tractors )never made it to the shop they were dedicated to new contracted accounts and they stayed at transfer stations around Ohio and drivers were hired from those areas as well. OTR breakdowns and DOT out of service citations were costing the company too much so I suggested getting a service truck. A third mechanic was going to be hired strickly for the service truck however the only qualified mechanic that was interviewed had a suspended license so by defualt I got stuck w/ that gig! The truck actually belonged to the Tech Tire supplier still a faded piss yellow. Once we got it ... it was de idetified some body work was done then it got sent out to be painted to match the fleet. When the truck got back from the paint shop the boss basically said it's your truck Scott finish it up. So I decaled it put most of parts/stock tools and other equipt in it. As far as working out of it that was a pleasure but driving that thing was terrible. Nothing like having a JB Hunt truck damn near blow your doors off. Driving on the interstate was terrible. It was too slow for the hammer lane . If I passed a slower truck there was always a parade behind me in the hammer lane by the time I could get back over!!! So I made friend's w/ the fact that I got paid by the hour and staring at the I.C.C. bumper behind the slowest tractor trailer on the road wasn't all that bad . Acceloration was terrible off the line. The weight of my tools, shop tools, premounted tires, and parts just made that 5.4 struggle and the owner of the company kept asking me why that truck went thru so much fuel. Scott

Mack MB was the worst, with the Scania engine, the cab was too small for 6 footers or taller. Mack MR was a much nicer ride, although still a baby cab over.

The absolute worst I ever drove was a 1997??, pre-Sterling take over, Ford Louisville lonnnnng wheelbase tandum dump truck. I had been up-graded from a 1986 Louisville. The old truck ran & drove great, but the interior was getting rough & the reason they put us newbies in it was due to the fact that the mast pins & dump pivot pins were worn out. And the mast leaked like a seive. When you raised that bad boy up, it was seat belt on, pucker up & pinch the seat, & look straight ahead. You could feel the bucket wobbling around, especially with clay, but as long as you didn't look in the mirrors, it wouldn't scare you too bad. Spreading stone was fun also & oh yeah, it had a combination dump/swing gate & we hauled logs. Some loaders laid them in & they didn't wedge tight, others dropped them in tight - those were fun to unload!! Raise up, do a couple of wheel stands to shake'm loose, then run out from under them, while praying you wouldn't flop over. Did I mention it ran & drove great tho?? LOL.
Back to the anteater - this thing was a joy to dump or spread with. Same gate setup as the old truck, but much more stable. Problem 1) it was underpowered, the radiator cooling fan came roaring on & stayed on almost the entire time you were crawling around job sites. Problem 2) this is embarrassing, everybody staring & Problem 3 & more important) the A/C worked fine in the winter & early summer mornings. By 9:00am, it had quit, windows went down & dust came in from the damn cooling fan!!
The interior was a major plus tho - roomy, 4 cup/drink holders, pouches on each door, a net pouch on the rear bulk head & A KILLER STEREO/CD player with 4 nice speakers!! That's why I stuck with it.

While not a driver... I was a right seat weight for many years and many many many miles. My parents were company drivers all my "riding" life... The worst truck... Was a 80 something KW cabover... Mason Dixon Truck Lines... My Dad and I spent 8 days sitting in front of the silver bullet lounge ( 1/2 mile from the Flying J truckstop) at Tacoma WA...
Now it wasn't Tacoma's fault that we sat there... but the truck... and the guy that owned it left Dad there..and then told him he'd have to deadhead back home ... It was my Dad's last run after 40yrs of driving..The trip from WA to MS was the long one of my life... My Dad drove during what I'd think was a golden age of truck driving ..and to be run over like that really hurt him badly. He never drove again Someday I'll build that truck as a memorial to my Dad and turn that positive memory

At work I hate out hand me down KW's. For the work that we down in tight confined areas the turning circle is a pain in the ass. For a big truck the doors are small the windscreen and side windows are too low and the seat cant recline back enough. The P cab Scanias are great for what we do. there the 380 but need to be 500 hp. O well cant have everthing

I work for a slurry seal company in Eugene Oregon, slurry seal is an machnied mix asphalt resurfaceer the machines are truck mounted. We go all over the state and resuface city street during the summer months. Anyway the worst truck I drove was a 1975 Intrnational 5000, we had 2 of those things and they were wore out when we got them. The mixer units that were mounted on them were very good units but the trucks were junk. They both had 6v53 detroits and had Allison atomatic tranys with a 3 speed brownie. They had no power and I know old detroits leak oil but these things leaked so bad that we had to wire cans under neath the motors to try to catch as much oil as possible other wise the slurry would not stick to the asphalt where the oil dripped. The ride of these things were horrible, if you did get them up to 55mph than you could not keep it there because every bump you hit would make you bounce right out of the seat my head hit the roof many times. We were always going through rear ends and transmissions also a few motors, the problem was they were just to under power for what we were using them for. I was so happy to see those trucks go. Dave

well Ive never had a cdl (had the temps just didnt get the cdl) But i have driven a few and worked on MANY. I never drove my least favorite on the road. It was a DM800 water tanker truck. I put a trans in that thing and you CAN'T reach anything. the truck is just so big that getting at any of the bolts is just a huge PITA. to top it off you have to remove big 4 inch water pipes from under the truck before anything. then it dripped water most of the time i worked on it. I was happy to see it leave the shop.

after thinking on this over night..the DM800 was my second least favorite. my least was (well we had 4 or 5) The EVO by lodal. the ones we had were 3208 cat powered with allison trans, a transfer case for an Oshkosh converted to a drop box and a rockwell front drive axle. to say these were a Pain in the butt was an undestatement. Pretty interesting trucks and they did there job quite well, but a mechanics nightmare.
