Greetings, I am just getting underway with this project. I am building a Payhauler in 8x8 mode. So far I have the front end of the chassis started, and I am about to mount the rearmost front spring hangers. With two front drive axles it is almost longer than the stock dump. The white frame extension is temporary! l Here the stock dump body is on the chassis where it belongs. And I still have to mount two rear drive axles and also fuel tanks. Here you can get an idea of just how long this thing will be. Right now the frame is a 17 1/4"s As always comments are welcome! Gator

An 8x8 Has got to be something different!!!! Are you building off a 1:1 or your own design? Either way it will be an interesting build and I will be following this one. Carry on!!

Bill this is my own design. And the project has now morphed into another truck as well. A three axle similar to what another fella did on another board. The 8x8 will be long. the 6x6 will be longer than the other guy made his. So far I have two built ups and two new kits into this. Poor prior planning. ( I keep cutting the plastic and it still don't fit. ) Seriously I am working things out and I am going to have to scratch build a few parts. When I started I didn't think that I would have to do that. But I am having fun!! Gator

Okay Guys, I have officially designated this the Payhauler 1000 8X8 twinsteer.. After much mucking around and many screw ups. I think I have the basic chassis set up now. I came up with this this afternoon. So it is no where near being a complete chassis. As always comments and welcome! Gator The next photos are of an idea that got scrapped after I had put a bit of time into it! When you see it I think you will understand why I dumped the idea. AS always comments and ideas are welcome! Gator

This reminds me of what Western Contracting Corp. did in 1:1 scale with a Euclid 1LLD back in the late 1950's: Took the then-biggest dump truck (50 ton) and made a tractor/trailer dump rig out of it (150 ton)!
What an interesting project, I have one of these Payhauler kits started and it is big enough - your 8x8 will be HUGE!

Robert, You are right, I was just looking at those old trucks a week ago with superdog down at his house. But for me it is a what if and so far aside from being a bit aggravating(" dangit I cut it twice and it still don't fit") This has been an educational build and I have plans for more variations. But I am having a lot of fun with this!! Gator

Good to hear this is a fun build - "fun" is what model building is supposed to be!

Okay Guys, Hare is an update on the Payhauler 1000 build. Replaced the plastic rams in the steering cylinders with aluminum tubing. One set being just a tad shorter to allow for proper turning radius. here you can see the difference between the rams. Modified the rear of the frame. The dump body will be farther back away from the rear wheels, than on a stock Payhauler Here you can see the difference between the stock Payhauler (top), and the new version As always comments and ideas are welcome! I like the steering ram upgrade, that's a useful technique for many applications. I know this isn't a Payhauler but it is an articulated truck - what about a 10 wheel Payhauler as a mate to the current project?

Robert, I was wondering if that truck was articulated. That picture just doesn't show it well. But that is a good idea for another project. But I am also going to do a two or three axle tractor pulling a big bellydump!

Okay Guys, Time for an update. The third dump body taped up and ready to be cut. The left overs. The middle one is the stock dump body. On top is the new long one. On the bottom is what is left. I see a new project there?? The three pieces joined together, The white lines are plastic rod being used to fill any small gaps. The new body is just shy of 18"s long. The new dump body almost finished As always thought and comments are welcome! Gator
