Hello guys, well I'm excited....I am finally ready to do some rigging for the boom. After painting and a few more additions this thing will almost be ready to go. The first few photos is the boom under construction Now it's kinda big so I couldn't get a close up and keep it all in the picture. But as I said, after some touch up and some paint....well... this thing is about 95% complete. I still need to make the part that holds the sheaves up next to the boom that supports the boom from the gantry and run my cables. But you can see what or where it's at now. More later and I want to thank you for looking Kerry

Kerry, Now that is looking more like a crane! The boom really looks old school. Though I have lacing on a crane, it is it has usually been on much older pieces. One thing about cranes. They can be used for a very long time, and if properly maintained be productive. Not to mention that they can be retro fitted with newer technology. I worked for a crane rental outfit in Miami that had a reputation for superb maintenance. When ever the went to sell a crane they had buyers lined up at the door!

Hey Gator, Thanks, I figured for the year and all it would look okay with the cab portion. That sounds like a really nice job you had there in Florida. But your right, later if I decide to alter it I still have that option. Kerry

Hi Kerry
That looks amazing. The gantry looks straight and true throughout and shows you did a cracking job of setting out the framework. Must have needed loads of patience !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have bought myself a multi angle chopper for just that sort of job and need to work out the ways to ensure I use it to its best. I will need to look back through your many pages to see where you did all your cutting and check out your techniques.
Fantastic work and certainly will be a talking point at the model shows or just when your friends see it on display in your house.

Hey Nige, long time no hear. Thank you for your comments and I was sweating the gantry part ever since I started the front connection pieces. Hoping that everything would work out and it did. I designed it on my cad program as was very happy when I first tried to piece it together, that it all fit. Very little adjustment. I have used the angle cutter (the chopper) and it works okay but it would cut the angle just fine but it would like skew as the razor blade really wasn't supported enough. I finally stopped using it and bought a miter sander which works very well for me. I make a cut leaving it alittle long and sand it down. For me it works great. Maybe they upgraded the chopper since I had mine. But anytime you need help or an explaination on anything Nige, please let me know. I will be very very happy to help you. I am hoping to enter this in a show near here this summer along with my truck and I hope the judges are pleased. Talk with you later Nige Kerry

Wow
That is a credit to your skills !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And the rigging of the ropes and pullies looks as if it would support quite a bit of weight itself !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I could just imagine it on a construction site ready to lift a 15 Tonne compacting block to pound the soft ground into submission ready for a heavy building.
Nice one

Thank you Nige, it took a bit of trial and error but it worked out. Now I have to figure how this thing tears down to load on a truck. But yep it did lift a pair of needle nose pliers. ha ha ,had to see if it would you know...... Kerry
