Clydes II is nothing but the good old Bill Signs Trucking kit. But this thread name has been used frequently on the forum, so I go by the name of the truck instead the company name.
I think that Revell AG have done a good job with replicating this iconic truck. But still there are some differencies from the real truck. Unlike the kit version, the real Clydes II has extended hood and it is powered by 3408.
Does anybody know what color the engine was? The factory colors for this engine were CAT yellow, white and red. Another possibility is that the engine shared the same color with the rest of the truck. So, what do you, guys, think?
The first thing I did was the hood length modification. I had two 359 short hoods, one was badly cracked. I cut off the rear part from the damaged hood and extended the kit short hood. I made two cuts along the spinal stripe and sanded off a bit of material to compensate for a different angle. The difference is very small. Maybe I could have avoided this step, but never mind.
But I made a mistake and extended the hood a bit less than I should. So, I had to repeat the job again to get the correct extension. Here is how it went...
Oops... not enough! Here we go again...
This is how it looks with the cab...
As I figured out, there are basicly two ways to go around with the extended hood on the model. One is to reposition the cab backwards and the other is to extend the frame. With all the pros and cons in mind I decided to extend the frame. A, I wanted to try this technique and B, I would have to reposition some other parts as well, not only the cab.
Here is the extended frame. The rails that is...
That´s it for now. Hope to be back soon. Please, do not forget to tell me what color I should paint the engine.
Cheers you all,
Jarda
