Interesting project. That Chrysler 413 sure get;s lost under that big hood! Where these air or hydraulic brakes? They were air with the diesel and Bendix vacum boosted hydraulic with the gas engine. The tranny was a New Process and the rear appears to be Chrysler/ Dana. Paul

Nice work on that smal one. Looks really grate as an stake truck. But the gasoline engine under the hood is really crayzie. Less power and needs a lot of fuel but hey fuel was cheep in that time......... So long Arnd

We just got rid of our MACK fire truck last year. It's a R-400 with the diesel engine, has the 5 speed tranny but no 2 speed rear. It had a new bed on it, but the truck itself is a '74 model. 10 times the truck we had to keep.......... but not as nice as the new one we got We had a fire a couple weeks ago and the town that got it was called in to help with the fire, so I grabbed a few pics of it. It looked alot better when we had it. Nice build by the way Paul Anthony

Not sure where we got it from, I wasn't on the department when they got it. She was a little slow on the road, (60mph was about all she had) but once we got there she'd out pump anything around. Nobody else liked drivin it because it was a standard tranny, and I wouldn't drive the other one because it was an automatic,LOL. It has a crazy shift pattern ( to me anyways) 1st was all the way to the right and up (reverse down), 2nd was all the way to the left and up,lol. Auto's are all we have now, when I jump in the new truck first thing I do is reach for the gear shift.......................and it ain't got one

Nice replica and enjoyed the Mack history lesson. I didn't know Mack outsourced for the gas engines, mind you I also didn't know there were gas engined R models. Fine looking pumper, our hall has a mid 90's FL80 crewcab - the old Mack R has w-a-y more style. I know what you mean about the transmission controls - electronic push button pad on the left side of dash? (That's what the FL80 has)

Yup, the MACK has WAY more style!! Hated to see it go. But we didn't have a choice, the oldest truck was the one that we had to let go. here's our new one, 2011 model............only our push buttons are on the right side of the dash Sorry Paul, didn't mean to hi-jack your post.
