Greetings,
My parents named me William, my Marines named me Doc and I am a modelholic. I have always built models. I got my first kit at the ripe old age of 4 and have been at it ever since. Even during my time in the service, i had a small kit stashed someplace so I could build. Model kits were a regular gift for any holiday.
I built my first truck model about 40 years ago it was the AMT Mack 6 Series. Brush painted it, made a total mess of it, but I was hooked. I built the entire series of AMT, Ertl, and Monogram kits. Sometimes more than once.
I come from a trucking family. My father's step father was a Teamster and drove OTR forever. He held the "2 Million Mile" award for safety. My mother's uncle was an independent driver hauling milk ofo various dairy Co-ops in the north east. My uncles both owned trucking companies (one still owns it but his daughter runs it). My "summer job" often was working around the shops or spotting loads for my uncles. When I was "old enough" I got to take a couple cross country trips with my Uncle Frank in his Ford CLT 9000. He had two of the 9000s and a single drive conventional for local runs (mostly milk or livestock) He later switched to Peterbilts and ran a fleet of four 377s.
My uncle Sonny, on the other hand, was an International man and had 4070 Cabovers.
I always wanted to own a heavy towing company, but my folks frowned on the idea. Instead I went to college and eventually enlisted.
I have nearly 100 truck kits and various conversions in the stash. On the bench right now is a Roll=Off truck based on a stretched R- Model Mack chassis with a resin hood conversion making it more modern and the Stepps Towing Peterbilt based Rotator (sold as the "Can-Do" wrecker).
I am a Life Member of the Hudson Valley Historical Miniatures Guild (the Mid Hudson IPMS chapter), the Regional Coordinator of IPMS-USA Region 1 and the Chair fo the IPMS Heavy Commercial Special Interest Group (SiG) called Heavy Haulers.
When I'm not butchering plastic, I get paid to run into burning buildings. I'm the Fire Marshal for a small city north of NYC. I'm a RABID motor-sports fan. If it goes fast, I'll watch it. I have season passes to Lime Rock Park, I'm a card carrying member of NHRA, and I've been following NASCAR since the '70s. I also make a number if trips to local tracks for DIRT, Whelen, and WoO.
I'm married 24 years to the most patient and understanding woman on the planet. We are child free but raise, train, and compete with Australian Shepherds and Labrador Retrievers.
I can retire from the Fire Department next year,,, maybe I'll buy that tow truck after all...
Thanks for looking. We now return you to your regularly scheduled lives.
