Hello mates!
I'm interested in regulation like daily or weekly working / driving times, etc. in the US.
In Europe /Germany ist not allowed, to drive on Sunday or holydays 00:00 h until 22:00 h (10 p.m.)., Exceptions have to be applyed, e.g. for Frigo's (reefers) or cattle rigs.
The daily shift time is 15 h.
The daily driving time is 9 h, two days a week 10 h.
We separate driving time, working time, shift time and break (or recess) time. We also now a "stand by" time, but it's not common, to use it.
It's not allowed, to drive / work more then 4.5 h. After 4.5 h one have to make a break of 45 min.
One have to do 11 h of night break; three nights a week its allowed, to cut it down to 9 h.
E.g.: One starting shift time at 06:00 a.m., he has to have a 9 h break during the next 24 h.
One also have to look out, to be ware of the "double-week", thats the actually week plus the last week (but no one does it, because it's not realistic, to reach it). There are so many exeptions, I won't explain it. It's too complicated.
Speed limit is 60 km/h on all roads, excepted on the Autobahn 80 km/h is allowed. But no one will say anything if one makes 69 or 89 (speed limiter).
Specifically in Germany the fixing of the load is very important! One have to do rubber carpets between the load and the floor of the trailer. Ther are regulations about the deka-newtons, the straps have to be tie down (stupid! One make it as hard as possible).
Trailers without a front panel are not allowed. Coils have to be stored in a "coil grave", if it's weight is more than 1 to. I know, that coil graves are not common in the US, so here is an example of a 19 to. coil:
Every good has to be stored on the trailer "formschlüssig", that means, there must be not space beteween the collis. If the cops criticise the fixing, the driver, his boss an the man on the forklift, who loaded the truck, get a fine and "points" in a so called "traffic-sinner-data". At 18 points, one lose his driving license and has to spend a lot of bucks!
25 tons of oiled(!) sheet metal (slicky like soap!):
I will not explain more details, because it will be boring. A lot of those regulations are so complicated, made only to give the cops a chance, to make money!
Max. lenghth of a semi rig is 16.5 m (Bumper to bumper), a full trailer rig 18.0 m
Max high is 4 m., max width is 2.5 m. All other needs a special permision.
The inner lenghth of a standard trailer 42 ft, thats is 13.6 m.
The complete rig incl. load must mot be more than 40 tons.
In other european countrys its different, but the departs from the rule are not so much.
We have a paper disc, what has to be fitted every morning into the speedo and writing down the speed, the times and so far (I will show You an example next week!).
Since a couple of years, a new system came up, what'Äs using a credit card-like registration; we call that a drivers card.
