Has anyone on here added hose or wiring details on any 1/32 scale snap kits? Thinking about trying to add a few to one I'm working on. Since there is less detail to the chassis, I figure this may be a good learning experience. I am just unsure of the size of wire or tubing to simulate to correct scale. Any advice on this would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Has anyone on here tried to make door hinges for 1/32 scale trucks? I've seen a couple posts for 1/24 & 1/25, but nothing else. I was trying to practice door making on the small scale trucks I bought as a lot before I screw up the larger kit I paid more for. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks. Jesse

It really is a shame, but the 1/32 kits are not terribly popular as they were marketed for kids. Some of them are really quite nice. The AMT kits even have fully detailed engines, not just the bottom halfs like the Revell/Monogram kits. You best bet might be a military modeling forum that specializes in 1/35, but they generally don't do "working features" like opening doors & hoods.

I agree. If these had engines I'd cut the hoods off too. But alas, they are all engine bottoms. If I figure anything out I'll be sure to post pics/techniques here. These may be "kids" toys but that doesn't mean they have to look that way. I may not be very knowledgeable on all of these detailing tricks but I am very persistent. If there is a way I'll find it, then I'll share.

Thanks, we'd appreciate it. There are actually a couple of 1/35 engines out there that you could use. I forget right now who makes it, but there is a 1/35 Detroit Diesel 8V92T available. It's pricy, but it's out there. Here, this Website might help you out: public.fotki.com/modeltrucks25thscale/model_magazine_articles/car_modeller/ The articles are geared toward 1/25 & 1/16, but you could always scale them down.

Thanks. I'll check that out. I think some of the trucks I posted pics of in my junkyard score post actually have engines in them. I know the COE that I'm currently working on does not, and neither do the 3 T600s but that's OK. I plan restorations on the Fords, Macks, and the GMC. The KWs were designated practice material anyway. Those I have seen on the shelf, so they'll be easy to replace. If I figure out a good hinge setup I will definitely share. I'm not greedy. Well, not too much anyway. Jesse

I decided not to reinvent the wheel on this project, at least not yet. I saw this technique shared on anther post by 41 Chevy. I modified it slightly and scaled it down as far as I could with available materials. I used the smallest brass tube and steel rod combo I could find. I do not have the specs near me right now, but will post them later.

This is the semi finished product. I will post more updates as soon as I figure out how to attach it to the door and cab. Attachments:

Interesting. My only concern would be how it looks "in scale".

Well, I may be able to hide the hinge itself and make a pseudo hinge for the exterior. This setup came apart while trying to cut it loose. I have tried another method. If it works I'll post pics. Once I figure the mechanics out I'll address the scale issue. I will keep you posted on how it turns out. Jesse

This is why I think I will move the hinge to the inside of the cab. This does not look very scale appropriate. Attachments:

I have been having trouble with this hinge setup so I have located a very small set of dollhouse door hinges. I'm currently waiting for the glue to set on one of them. Will post an update with photos if they work out.

Here is how the door will look with the hinge installed. It still seems off scale, but this is the closest thing I've found as yet. Will update when the door and hinge assembly is installed in the cab. I hope this proves useful to anyone looking to add some detail to their small scale trucks. Jesse Attachments:

I have finished one side of my functional door hinge learning experiment. Although the scale is off a bit, I don't think it looks too bad. It's not quite the look I was going for, but that's why they call it trail and error. I plan to invert the hinge on the opposite side and see what I get. This is what I have after several trails and errors. I'd like to hear what y'all think. Jesse Attachments:
