I've been working on this one (on & off) for a while now, and I figured it was time to upload some WIP pics. So far the kit has been quite nice. This is my first Italeri kit, and it really has gone together quite well. Still not a big fan of the multi-piece cab, though. Here is the look I'm going for: Apparently, the kit is an earlier version of the IVECO 190 26, but since the kit is Italian (Italeri), IVECO is Italian, and I'm part Italian; I figured that Vigili del Fuoco was an obvious choice. Here are a couple of shots of the frame & the (I think) Deutz F6L engine: I didn't have any good references for the interior of Vigili del Fuoco vehicles from the 1980s, so I went with what Italeri suggested: And a couple of shots of the body in primer. It will eventually be Testors Model Masters Italian Red (seems logical): Well, there you have it. Any suggestions are, of course, welcome; and I'll keep you up to date as I progress.

Hi Jim! The cab is the latest cab, FIAT created, before it would be a part of the international IVECO group. The cab of the Turbo Star (first Iveco project) was optically the "bigger brother" of this cab. Yes, the engine is an air cooled Deutz and the tranny is made by ZF. May be, this will be interest You: In the beginning of Iveco, the trucks where badged different. In Germany as Magirus Deutz, in Italy as Iveco (or Fiat) and so on. The first hundert of the german version also had the air cooled Deutz engine, the same rounded fenders like Your model: Later models also got an water coold, turbo charged engine. The italian type had other fenders and steps, a plastic covered back window and a water cooled engine: www.modell-laster-forum.de/t1822f112-Iveco-Turbostar.htmlBefore the Iveco- Idea was born, a group of truck manufactorer created the "Vierer- Club- Fahrerhaus" (Club of the Four- cab), what was used for smaller trucks. Magirus and Fiat also where involved in this project, also Ford (GB) and Renault: italeri.com/scheda.asp?idProdotto=574&idCategoria=7&idSottocategoria=34Martin

Thanks for the history lesson, Martin. That was interesting. I'm not that familiar with the European manufacturers, so I'm always looking for information. I think the next Euro truck I do might be a DAF XF105.
By the way, on that IVECO Turbostar you linked to, what are the 80 & 60 on the back of the aircleaner for? Are they maximum speeds or something?

I've been trying to paint the cab over the last few days, but that ridiculous red plastic keeps turning the white stripe a slight pink!! The cab is in the purple pond, and we'll try again this weekend. I'm thinking I might just paint the cab red, and use Microscale decals for the stripes.

Hi Jim!
Yes, the buttons on the air cleaner are max. speed for Autobahn (comparable with Interstate) and for other roads. In most european states the speed is limited for trucks to 60 km/h and on the Autobahn 80 km/h. City limit mostly is 50 km/h.

Jim, Did you ever get the cab painted to your satisfaction? I wonder if you used black primer, if the red would bleed through that as well?

Actually, I haven't retried painting it yet. I stripped it all down, and it's ready for primer. I've heard of people having good luck with a silver undercoat; I'd be concerned that the black would just make everything too dark.
I got some white vinyl (at least I think it's vinyl, maybe it isn't, I don't really know) from ap40rocktruck that he's used for stripes in the past. So I think the plan now is to prime & paint the Italian Red then add the stripes using the stuff Rick gave me.

Hi Jim! I always use the Revell primer and made good experiences with that. The red color on the picture of the fire truck looks very similar to Ferrari red ( ) Martin

It is kind of bright, isn't it. I wonder what's a good match for Ferrari Red.
