Also before I retired, If you drove for a big company, most of them had deals with Freightliner a.k.a a throw a way tractor, These companys traded trucks every 2 to 3 years so you were pretty sure to get a new truck every 2 to 3 years. Everybody should get a new truck every couple of years, for the hard work and hours you put in that is the least you deserve.
Jeff
I agree, but some carriers seem to almost use that as an excuse not to pay a decent wage, or be fair with their drivers. For good pay and respect, I'll drive the ugliest thing built, because that new truck smell goes away after awhile. But I do agree with you in terms of deserving a new piece of Good equipment.
you should see the one's i'll be driving when i go back in...
The Unimog 6x6 Medium Recovery Vehicle (MRV)
and the new version of the Mack HRV
It might also be worth noting that both of these are being "downgraded" as the army is going to introduce a new 8x8 HRV similar to the new Tank Transporters they've just bought

my dad wants me to post his kenworth. he said that is his favorite truck but the r model made second. he would still have that thing if bison did not say the r needed a sleeper and now he still remembers the r and prays to good saying please make that r model live good not to its death at a junk yard
Well, I have a new favorite. Some of you may remember my rants about my T600. Well, I let it go back. I now have this 2000 Pete 379 with all the options, American Class Interior, and my favorite part, the N14-525 and Fuller 18 spd that goes with it. I never had a truck that was such a pleasure to drive, although my old Pete came very close.
I dont know about favorite. but loved when i was driving a 1996 peterbilt 378 for team transportation. Cummins N14-460E,265 in wb 10 speed, 63' flattop sleeper , and was the first truck that team ordered with chrome gages . when i got it the safty director at the time didnt get down to the truck to put "their set up" in it. it wasnt the fastest governed at 75. didnt go up a hill faster than my 2001 pete with a 600 cat in it. but i loved that truck. i couldnt wait to get out on the highway and run the humps (rt 22) to philly. as ive gotten older i really dont much enjoy driving as i once did.
Aaahhh US 22 in PA. I'm glad they at least started making some of it 4 lane, but they still have a long way to go. I don't hate running that road, but I wouldn't do it everyday either.
try running it back in 92 with a cabover 318. took 16 hours from the burgh to philly. i didnt mind it when i had my c-16. to top i had a buddy at cat give it some numbers. so it didnt do too bad. only problem is getting stuck behind someone. especially the sunday drivers.
i miss when i first started driving. the drivers were cool and into the helping their fellow drivers. now a days its all about "me" and F everyone else. like now a days its rare to see someone helping someone else get in a parking spot or help to slide tandems. hell its hard to see someone move over for you to join on a highway. its just not like it was 13 years ago.
I started driving in 1997, and in that short time things have changed so much. I do still see that flatbed drivers will help one another fold a tarp, or even with straps and chains. I've had a few drivers run over when I was on top of my load and tarping in the wind, tie my tarp down as the wind tries to carry it away.
Then again, some drivers don't make a person want to be helpful towards them. You offer assistance, and get "Hey, I've got satelitte tracking! I don't need you! I have professional help on the way!" Or, and I get yelled at for this, but I don't ask for it either. I was tired of watching drivers yell at someone who asked for directions, or help sliding his tandems as if the individual were stupid. There is always the driver who will say to me,"You know you can ask for help, don't you? Don't struggle by yourself." I then remind them of what happens when people ask for assistance. That is why my c.b. stays turned off as well. Not everyone will like each other in life and I get that, but it's a shame that this has happened. I think this is another reason many of our good guys and gals leave.
Sorry to depress what was a happy thread, but I had to rant. Thanks for listening.
well back in 92 that satelitte stuff was only first coming onto the scene. basiclly there were truck drivers then and now theres just a$$holes that drive.
