i hate to say this. i think the days of the single truck owner operator are soon to be the thing of the past. 1978 in convoy they said " theres not many of us independants left." thats becoming so so true. at $4.15 a gallon for fuel wow i dont know how anyone can make ends meet.

I honestly have to say I had 2 favorites. 2 different times in my career. 1st one was the Kenworth. Owned by a high school buddy of mine. We ran NY to California. Truck was a 86-87. Truck was later totaled in Florida. My buddy flipped it. Actually he's flipped 2. walked away from both. The Kenny was sweet. Memory serves me right it had a 425 Cat backed by a 13. Looked good going down the road. The second was my Pete. 2000. 475 Cat bumped to 550. 18 speed. I ran metro Detroit to Syacuse , 3 times one week,2 the next. Ran across Ontario. Did that for 5 years for a good friend of mine. I got out of the truck in 05. He's since sold it. It still trucking today. I wish I had a newer pic of it today. It's been revamped a little with new graphics and paint. Still looks good. Both different stages of my life but 2 really nice trucks.

The 1989 Mack R in my avatar is my favorite. Underpowered (story of my life it seems), but once I got the hang of it, I loved it. It drove great, rode great (for a Mack LOL) & dumped & spread great. I hauled topsoil, mulch, mortar, play & sand blasting sand, as well as 4 types of golf course sands. Clay fill, infield mix ballfield clay, river rock, quarry stone, rip rap & logs after removing the gate. Loved it - Miss it!! Several injuries over the years have put me permanently on the DL & I'll never be able to drive trucks again. It was tough, at only 48 years old, the day my CDL & Health Certificate expired, knowing the ride was over.
A 1996 KW dump was my 2nd favorite - quad axle, aluminum body, floatation tires on the steering axle. Drove great but was underpowered. The company owned 20 quads, all plain jane interiors, did have nice cloth seats, & all 20 had the smallest engines available. Slugs uphill, loaded, on the Interstates!! We did a lot of stone & asphalt spreading on highway projects & I loved this truck on those jobs. I wasn't smart enough to take pictures of it sadly.
In 1998 the company also bought 5 KW road tractors - all were tandum with 1 drop axle. 4 pulled rolling floor sand buckets & 1 pulled a 3 axle low boy. At the same time they bought 5 quint axle dumps. These 10 trucks were loaded - chrome everywhere, power everything & BIG engines.
