For me, it's a toss up between two trucks. I know it's going to sound crazy, but I spent some time behind the wheel for Swift Transportation driving a Freightliner FLD120 with the raised sleeper. I really was comfortable driving that truck and enjoyed that rig immensely. I know alot of big rig drivers don't have much use for Freightliner, but the FLD120 was one of the most comfotable rides I've ever had the pleasure of driving. For some reason, I was just able to connect with the handling characteristics and overall feel of that truck better than I was with any other rig. I have driven Macks, Peterbilts, Western Stars, Kenworths, and just about everything else you can think of. My second choice was the 379 pete heavy duty recovery wrecker I used to drive. I loved that rig as well and put a ton of miles on that old girl hauling big rigs all over the Northeast. I had the chance to purchase that truck but was critically injured soon after I had the chance to purchase the truck so I wasn't able to call it my own. Unfortunately, after being hurt on the job, it effectively ended my wrench turning days on trucks and I am now working in emergency medicine at a local hospital. Definitely a far cry from climbing behind the wheel of these awesome machines, that's for sure!

Got to spend a short time co-driving a Pete conventional years ago. That was a nice rig. Spent the majority of my time, however, looking at the backside of a bulldog running up and down Florida for Commercial Carrier.

3 weeks only. KW VIT 100 Aerodyne. I was lucky to have the pleasure to drive that rig for 3 weeks. I wish I still had pictures of that dream. Everything inside was leather and Teakwood. Power everything. Lower waterbed upper air mattress. I was sent to California with that truck from Milwaukee WI. Didn't even feel the 53' reefer box on the rear. Got back did local runs with it then someone else drove it for 3 days and totalled it.

I have driven KW, Pete's,Mack's,GMC, Internatonional's but I would have to say my favorite would have to be the Freightliner FLD120 Condo smooth ride and lots of room My last one was a 2000 600hp detroit with an 10 speed automatic and all the bells and whistles.Pete's and KW are nice trucks but they do not have enough room for me I am 6' 3" 375 lbs and i could not get enough room for my legs until I got the FLD120..........

I would say that although I have always been a Kenworth fan, my favorite truck was my old truck. It was the first truck I ever owned. It was a 1999 ext hood 379 Pete, an old Marten Transport truck that was all dressed up(4 States in jopiln, Mo knew that truck well). N14-500 Cummins engine, Eaton Ds404 rears with a 3.70 ratio, and a FRO16210C 10 spd transmission. It was the very first Pete I ever drove. It wasn't the fastest thing on 18 wheels, but it was a pleasure to drive, and would get up and go. I miss that truck. It was a very good mountain climber, and always held a constant speed. I wasn't impressed with the room in the sleeper. I should've just put a new sleeper on it like I wanted to. I miss my "Old Girl". I could go on and on about that truck, but she's gone. Here she is at Marten. ...and from her flatbed days...

When I started working for this company in NM I was given the charge of a COE Pete. It was in pretty rough shape and I was able to have our maintenance shop order the parts it needed and help with some repairs on it. Then my department received 2 brand new 2006 Pete Conventionals with walkthrough sleepers, In dash CD, electric everthing, digital this and that. So, nothing has yet to top a new Pete in my book.

i cant comment as i dont have a CDL or Class D for that matter If you have a Massachussetts license (not a motorcycle license) then you should have a lass D license. The class D is the basic motor vehicle license in Massachussetts. With it you can drive any thing up to 26,000 lbs. (besides a bus) but can only pull a trailer less than 10,000 lbs.

Drove a lot of different trucks, with 45 years over the road. Had several I really liked, but prefered the Freightliner Century Class Condo. Reasons being that it was plenty roomy inside and it had a great maneuverabily over some of the other makes on the road. Also before I retired, If you drove for a big company, most of them had deals with Freightliner a.k.a a throw a way tractor, These companys traded trucks every 2 to 3 years so you were pretty sure to get a new truck every 2 to 3 years. Everybody should get a new truck every couple of years, for the hard work and hours you put in that is the least you deserve. Jeff
