Yeah, I'd heard about that earlier. Has something to do with the copyright of the Fruehauf name.

They probably didnt want to pay them for the rights to produce it under the Fruehauf name. Unfortunately were going to be seeing alot more of this. It started in another hobby and now its spreading to all of them. i think the days of reissues are going to be numbered unless someones got deep pockets to pay for the use of the names. Ive heard it can be as high as $5000-10,000 depending on the company. At a 1000-3000 pieces being the norm for reissues it isnt enough for the seller to recoup let alone make a profit for the price for manufacturer to make them and the rights for the use of the name and logos.

why can't they just do what Italeri/Revell did with the MackSuperliner and just omit any sign of a manufacturers name?? wouldn't be that hard to do,just blank out the Fruehauf logo from the moulds/box/instructions! it's not like we didn't know the "U.S Power Truck" was a Mack

You know if the trademark holders looked at it this way..........Think of all the Fruehauf models out there and all that could be out there, Every time we see one it would be free advertisement to Fruehauf. I see a great model of their product put together and looking good, I think of Fruehauf and how great and wonderful and good looking their products are. FREE ADVERTISEMENT. They could write it off at tax time. Right ??
Well they should be allowed to if they can not.

Actually, Fruehauf is no longer in business but the trademark is still owned by someone else.... or so I've heard.

The same issue affected the Nascar builders. If you notice, the new Nascar kits do not have the "Goodyear" logo on the tires or the decals on the fenders. Also, after Dale Earnhardt's death, Simpson also requested their name be removed from future releases due to the controversy surrounding their products. For the longest time you didn't see any Dale Eanrhardt kits offered because of the copyright issue, but eventually his cars were once again released once an agreement had been reached. Personally, I think it's stupid, but it all comes down the money in the end. After all, money makes the world go round, right? So now once again we suffer because some idiot sitting in a big, fat, cushy chair behind an expensive oak desk decides he can't live on the $5,000 a day salary he's making now and wants to pad his fat ass even more with our money. Can you tell how I feel about the whole stupid situation?

The name Fruehauf is owned by a bunch of companies who Fruehauf owed money too. So, in otherwords, for every kit sold, AMT would have to split the license fees among dozens of Fruehauf's creditors. Even after bankruptcy and liquidation, someone will step forward and demand money. At this time, AMT isn't in a position to fight a battle, nor spend the money to alter the tooling to remove the one logo. Maybe under the next owners they will. The test-shots of the flat bed were nice, and Stevens International was planning to include the larger GoodYear tires from the MPC era. Tim

I hope they find a way to bring it back. There are so many possibilities with this kit. I was just getting ready 2 order one from Model Express when I got the news. Shame. I would like to see more of the trailers come back. Incidentally, are the Mack re-issues still safe? I'm looking forward to the R model, but it's nice to see the Cruiseliner back as well.
Anyone know how long ago Fruehauf went under?

Bummer. Well, then again, remember back in( I think) 1993 or '94 when they were going to reissue the Freightliner cabover? Because it was a White Freightliner, they couldn't get it licensed, but almost 10 years later, we at least got the SD daycab. Maybe it will come back in the future. These molds were "dusted off" so to speak, so maybe some effort will come forth. Who knows.

That's what I have in the works. I have plans for a Transcraft(thank you caboverkw), and a 1983 Trailmobile flat. The Trailmobile is being done from an HO scale kit that I'm "blowing up" to 1/25 scale. I also plan to "reduce" the 1/16 scale Monogram Fruehauf. In other words, for both, building their 1/25 scale counterparts. I will have to do new frame rails, tail and nose panels, but I can do these using the AMT Fruehauf deck. The Transcraft will be completely scratched, though.
