I know this is going to sound like a rant and I guess it is just that. WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON WITH ALL THESE HEADLIGHTS? I understand the use for road lights on the bumper but WHY do drivers have to drive with them on all the dam time. just because there is a switch on the dash for them does not mean they must go on all the time. it is so fruststrating having trucks coming up from behind on the interstste with all these lights on. you are not on a 2 lane backwoods road youre on the dam interstate turn those lights out. the worst thing truck manufactures ever did was to put those dam lights on as a standard option. when I become president I will ban all bumper lights. maybe im old school but I have them on my truck and I never use them. and why Im at where did the courtesy of dimming your brights go, it seems it does not exist anymore drivers from behind and coming at you do not dim the lights anymore. WHAT IS GOING ON??? well I guess Im done ranting. I do want everyone to know that I am not lumping every driver together there are many professional drivers with much courtesy out there but it seems like a new breed is taking over and I am not liking it. to bad for me that i am only 50 and have a lot of driving to still do . maybe I will become a millionaire and start a trucking company and none of the trucks will have road lights. james champion

Thank you James and AMEN! Except I see way more of these idiots in four wheelers. These auxilary lights are bright, and even though we don not need more laws, we need some legislation that they are to be deemed the same as hi beams. Shut 'em off when yor meet or pass. If you NEED them on all the time maybe you should see your eye doctor or your proctologist. I agree 110%!!

I believe some drivers feel there truck (or car for that matter) look better with them on. For instance i knew of many owners of VW Golf GTIs that had the auxillary driving lights in the grille. These guys would drive with the headlights AND driving lights on ALL the time. Even on a bright sunny day, simply because they think the vehicle looks better with them all on. A couple of those guys told me that trend started with the tv commercials since they would do that to highlight the extra options on the vehicles in the ads.
I myself have several lights on my old Ramcharger. 5 KCs on the roof, 2 sets of 6 1/2 inch Hella driving lights on the front bumper (1 set with 55 watt bulbs, the other set with 100 watt bulbs), and a set of Hella amber foglights (with 55 watt bulbs) on the front bumper too. Sometimes during dusk i may turn on the park lights and the fogs untill its dark enough for the headlights, but i don't use any of the driving lights unless i am on a winding backroad with no traffic, or if going off road. Off road is the only time i use the roof mounted KCs. Also my headlights have ben swapped out for Hella replacement headlights with 55 watt low beams and 100 watt high beams. I ALWAYS switch to low beams when i see another vehicle in front of me.

We don't need any more legislation, what we need is more enforcement. Many states have auxillary light laws on the books, along with laws pertaining to hi-beams. The police have to enforce the laws already in place. Just like the wipers on - headlights on laws, or the move over laws for emergency vehicles, if the police crack down on the "little" things, the bigger things such as speeding, tailgating may take care of themselves.
