I have spent the past couple of days sorting and sifting through this forum, checking on posts, W.I.P.'s and so forth. There's a few things I've noticed so I thought, being the outspoken person that I am, that I would share a few of my thoughts with the members here.
First, we have seen alot of new faces join over the past few weeks. I would like to extend my hand of friendship to all who have joined and we all look forward to having you here and getting to know you better in the future as well as seeing your builds.
As with any forum, we have many members who post very rarely, if at all. Out of the 377 current members we have, it's safe to say there is only about 20 to 30 members who post here on a regular basis. When you stop to think about it, that's a horrendous ratio. With the number of members we have here, we should have dozens of new posts made here everyday, even with the summer months being upon us. We all know things slow down during the summer, but still, we should be having way more participation than this here. This forum fills a huge void left by other model forums on the net, yet I see many people who are members here posting their efforts on other sites not even dedicated to big rigs. It's rather frustrating to me to go to another site not even dedicated to trucks and seeing in depth WIP's, how-to articles, and other material that would be far more suited to this forum and site. What's worse is the majority of those postings are made by members of this forum, so the excuse of not knowing about this forum doesn't hold water.
This site has been up and running for a few years now, but it seems as though the interest here is waning as time goes on. I waded my way through the member's list last night and was absolutely shocked at the number of members who used to post here regularly but have since dropped off the radar. I'm not talking about members who just posted to post, but members who actually displayed their work and showed their awesome truck modeling talents. I don't know why these individuals have decided to show their work elsewhere, or to just disappear entirely, but it troubles me, that's for sure.
I had a few individuals ask if we could organize another CBP so i tossed the idea out a couple days ago. The majority of responses, as indicated in the voting, shows little to no interest in tackling any new projects. Again, another indication that people are tiring of this forum. There is only so much the mods can do to sustain interest here. I dunno, maybe we need some fresh ideas from new people here on how to make this forum better and more attractive to commercial builders. Maybe adding a new moderator to the staff to help spice things up might be the answer, I honestly don't know. I'm open to suggestions on what we can do to make things better here so please feel free to share.
The bottom line is, there are a TON of truck builders out there who have more talent than they can imagine. It's a shame their efforts aren't being displayed here for all of us to see and enjoy.
We should have numerous how-to articles, WIP threads, completed projects, and other discussions regarding our section of the hobby here, but it's simply not happening.
So, I propose the question to all of the members here. What can we do to make this place better? What can we do to draw more active participants to this forum? I am seeking input from EVERYBODY here, regardless of how long you've been a member, how many kits you build, or anything else. If you're a member here, then your input is both warranted and appreciated.
So let's hear it folks. What can we do to make this place better for everyone and to draw more participation from members and bring in new members? Let's hear your ideas and thoughts!
