That's some really nice work on that grill. Where'd you get that correct mesh screen for it?

I thought I had updated this one, but I guess I hadn't. There was a setback and the truck you see as not far from being done had to have the cab and hood stripped. Jerry at modeltruckin.com came through for me with new stripes. Only difference is the outline is silver instead of gold like in the pix. I will update soon, as it's the next one to be on the bench.

I'm back to work on this one. To borrow a term from Jim B, it's time to clear my "Shelf of Shame". (Let's face it, we all have one : , and this one has been there the longest. Since '08. It was an almost complete truck before a setback that caused it to be stripped. I'm going to push this one forward. The rear brake chambers, which are ROG parts, were modified. I cut off the caging bolts that are molded on. On the rear drive axle, I cut down the chambers so that the parking brakes are on the front drive axle only. This configuration is somewhat common. I'm working on fitting the engine, but before I do, there are a few details to add. Under the oil pan is an oil canister that was installed on some Detroits by their owners to catch the oil that drains from the air box tubes. I do have some of KJ790's excellent valve cover castings for this engine, but I'm saving those for another Silver92 that I have. The ROG radiator was modified. Above the fan are the upper radiator hose connections. It's the round parts above the opening in the fan shroud. As molded, the radiator had one. I added a second and turned them both 90 degrees like the real truck I'm using as reference. The front side with my scratch built a/c condenser. I got the first coat of paint on the body parts. DupliColor DSGM347 is the color once again. The stripes will be laid down soon. The narrow plate is actually a piece of the removed grille. The deck plates are just laying in place for now. I had to modify another grille from another snap kit. I actually managed to lose the single headlights shown earlier in the thread. I don't know where they are and I just saw them the other day. I am using these original issue amt California Hauler headlights instead. Personally, I always preferred the dual round headlights on the 359 anyway. I do hope I find the missing single headlights as I will use them on a California Hauler when I do. I will update soon and thanks for looking.

The second and hopefully final coat is on the cab, hood, and sleeper. While I leave those alone for awhile, I will continue to work on tying the engine into the truck's frame. I found my ebay built-up that I will be stretching. Unfortunately, the double livestock trailers I was building for my single axle Frightliner became damaged. Some sections couldn't be saved, so they will be used to stretch this one 5 or 6 feet and give it more of a 1980s appearance.

Just a little update. A lot of trial and error has been happening as I try to wrap this up now that I can have some uninterrupted build time. The exhaust pipe is a combination parts from Ertl, Revell and Revell AG. It took a few tries to get it close. This is a side wall section for the trailer. The white section in the middle is at stock kit length. I added sections to it. I have to get the proper length for the end sections over the wheels before I can really assemble the trailer. Extra vertical braces are being cut from scrap wall sections, ground thin, and installed as shown towards the right of this pic. This one is just laying there for now. The trailers I have been referencing are 1978, 1981 and 1982 Wilsons that are 45-48 ft long. I will let you know the final length of this trailer when it's assembled. I've got the main walls attached to the floor. The transition wall between the lower and nose section floors is also in place. The landing gear legs are in place. I still have to assemble the nose section. I've built the basic structure of the rear section and it is attached. I just have to make some narrow filler pieces to fill the small gap between the rear and main sections. The main difference you will notice in the next posting or 2 about the trailer is it's longer, and the diagonal braces are eliminated.

I did get more done to the trailer, however. What you see here is that I have moved the roll-up door over to the driver's side. The swing doors were replaced with a wall. I used the ribbed Evergreen sheet in the foreground under the bumper to make new sections for the roll up door. Here is the basic structure. The length comes to about 44 feet 6 inches. I wanted 45 ft., but it's close enough. I still have to putty, sand, etc. b4 the trailer can be painted. It will be in a bare aluminum finish. Thanks for looking.

The trailer is almost done. The suspension is mounted. I used resin 20" 2 hole Budd wheels bought from a seller on ebay that occasionally has them available. The tires are Revell AG Pete 359 tires from the spares box. These tires fit nicely on 20" kit wheels as well as these resin wheels. Here it is mocked up. There are still a few small things to do, but I will be focusing on the truck for now.

It's getting much closer now. This is the engine prior to mounting the cab. The truck is once again striped. Modeltruckin.com item3 PB-115 is the set I used . I changed them slightly from the stripes I used originally. The outline is now silver instead of gold, and the center stripe is now clear instead of red. These aren't the easiest decals to apply, but they are nice. The Luberfiner was stripped and painted to match the truck. It, and the hood are just laying in place for now. A better shot of the grille. The cab is glued into place, so now I can concentrate on finishing this one up.

The engine is fully tied to the truck now with all lines, hoses, etc being attached. Almost done. The bumper is just laying in place for the photo. Only a few things remain on both the truck and trailer. If Thanks for looking and for all the kind words.

Final detailing and clean up of errors is what's going on now. The rear of the trailer with the pull rope added to the roll up door. A peek at the interior through the windshield. I added spot mirrors, did minor weathering to the frame and added a few chrome goodies. Completed photos later today.
