well Ray, it wasn't that hard at all. I just slightly modified the Peterbilt kit bumper to accept the Fords. I also added lights to the front fender where the kit ones were barely visible. they are from the can-do wrecker. maybe some of the forum can help me on this, this is my first fire truck build so forgive me if I do something wrong. please, point it out & I'll fix it. I already changed the lights in the grill.(thanks Tiny!) now as for front tires/wheels, is it only the pumpers that would have the wide floats? (I'm guessing it's the weight that they carry & not cosmetics) would a set look out of place on this vintage of a truck? also the tarp that covers the hose bed, it it always red? any help is greatly appreciated.

Looking Good!! As for the flotation tires, most dept.'s spec them according to the GVW. Some spec'm because they look cool & their budget has deep pockets . They'd look good on that truck, now that you mention it. Back in the day, tarps were mostly red, some black & even a few green. Today, it's a rainbow - I've seen photos of yellow, blue, orange as well as the old stand-by's. What are you going to make your's out of?? I've seen'm made with tissue, white glue & water & they look good. Over at the Scale Fire House, I wanted 1 on a Ford C/ALF pumper rebuild. It was suggested to use aluminum foil . Never thought of it before, but it works great. Lay a piece slightly bigger than the hose bed, trim it, get'yer wrinkles in it, paint it & glue'r down. I've got the same project planned - how much modifying did you have to do to the pump/hose body to mate it to the Louisville??

The lights on the fender do make a difference. It's looking better and better. As to the tarp, I've seen all different colors except white(seen white trucks), although it seems they tend to match, or at least contrast the truck. Like white truck/red tarp, etc.
That trash hauler is sweet! Nice work. I love the tarp and thanks to both you and tiny for the tarp ideas. For my Autocar's trailer I was going to use the tissue paper and white glue method. I see where it really can look good, but that seems nice and messy. Any pointers or things I should know about using the tinfoil as a tarp?

Ray, it's easy & I'm all for that!! Just cut a piece a little bigger than you need, wrinkle it, trim it, paint it & there it is. So simple I could do it LOL.

Tiny pretty much summed it up. the best part is once you get it formed/shaped, you could take it off & paint it w/o distorting it very much.

Jim that thing is look'n great.I don't think floats would look that good, the 11.00/20's are fine IMHO.I think you should put some chrome trim on the sides of the hood and cab, firetrucks are pretty fancy. I see one thing you might want to look at-If you tilted the hood the grill looks to me like it would hit the siren, maybe check it out and move the siren or take a bar out of the grill to allow full tilt, think of a mack with the "push" bumper.Maybe add some spotlights to the roof. I'm sure you know this thread, but if not- pete389.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=inprogress&action=display&thread=1579KEVIN

LOL, but can a Caveman do it? ;D Thanks guys. I learned my lesson on saying something looks easy. I end up spending hours and hours turning "low-tech" in2 "rocket science" wondering where I screwed up sometimes.
