If we go ahead with this then I already have my project picked out. I think the red/orange color combo would be really striking myself, or even a black/silver combo.

Personally, I was thinking of either an APA Mack R-Series, a Garrett Transportation International 4300, or a Matlack Mack Cruiseliner. I'm decisive, aren't I?

hummm...I am kinda building my own fleet, so I know im going to vote for the colors i already use. I might build one anyways but my big question is, Are you guys going to be ok with me doing a total rebuild from my junkyard? Im cool with before photos an stuff. I just don't really want to start one of my few new kits when I have such a pile that need a rebuild.

Rebuilds are perfectly fine. Trucking companies buy used rigs all the time and retrofit them to their own color schemes.

The only truck model I've ever finished within a decent amount of time (3 month) was a cbp. Maybe this will help me do another. So, is it decided that all participants will use the chosen paint scheme? Dan

Who's going to supply the decals? hopefully a nice member will do up some art work and post,so we could get some decal paper and print our own. This is the only way around this decal problem, I think. Any other ideas?? Voted for the scheme Kevin

What's goin' on...
Now here's a Club build I might be interesting in.
This is just my opinon here.
First we have to come to an agreement on what equiptment this "fictitious" trucking company will have.
What model trucks and trailers does everyone have in their stash or that's avialiable to buy at a moments notice.
I've been a trailer mechanic damn close to 20 years now and probably 17 of those I worked for trucking companies as small as a Brother-Sister owned company w/ 18 trucks and less than 30 trailers all the way up to Swift Transportation w/ 10's of thousands of trucks and trailers.
I would have to say the name of the company and type would depend on what models everyone has. EXAMPLE... We all have (OR 90%) the Newly Reissued Freightliner (dual drive) and everyone has the Great Dane dry van. So the trucking company is solely composed of one style truck (the Freightliner) and a trailer Great Dane dry van. Then figure out what year and date in time the company just bought this equiptment to when they retired it. I recall naming the company using the initials TSF (truck stop forum)
Since everyone (hypothetically) agreed having the Freightliner and a dry van a good choise would be (for example) Tri-State Freightline and settle w/ what city and state the corperate headquarters will reside at. Now if everyone has a 359 Pete and a Fruehauf dump trailer a good name for that would be Top-Soil and Fretilizer Co. Now for the 10% of us that might not have the Frieghtliner coe and trailer here are some other options. Fleets have support vehicles such as dump trucks w/ plows to clear and maintain the drop yard at the terminal(s) and speard salt. ( AMT Ford dump and plow kit would work)
Fleets also have company cars where office personel (dispatch) use to drive the yard to account for empties and loaded trailers. They also use full size (automotive) vans as in (Ford Chevy Dodge) that are used to take drivers to the hotel if their truck is in the shop for extended time or picking up new recruits at the airport to report to orientation and to have a truck assigned to them. So numerous car and or van model kits could be used. Now be realistic. A trucking company wouldn't buy a GT Mustang for the company car something like a four door sadan from the time period we agree on basing this build on.
Then for the shop service trucks are always needed. (This is what I work out of for a living) They can be anything from a 1/2 pick up to a straight truck.
HEY MARK HERE'S AN IDEA FOR YOU!!! Say you choose to build a Freightliner well how about scratchbuilding a fifthwheel/chassis mounted tow aparatous. ( I used one made by Tow Your Own at a former trucking company that layed me off) You know one of those set ups where it has an adjustable boom and it's powered by hooking a set of jumper cables from the truck's batteries to the motor on the boom.
Basically these non conformance vehicles (not Freightliners and Great Dane vans) would be painted in company colors and have a small unit number on them.
Here's what would REALLY MAKE THIS A CLUB BUILD!!! Every Freightliner (again using the example Freightliner Dual Drive truck and Great Dane dry van) be painted using the same primer and paint made by the same company and same part number. We figure out the color combination and list the measurements on where the two tone splits.
As far as art work goes I (MIGHT) be able to creat something using WINDOWS "WORD" In the event I can I'd creat a WORD file and send it to everyone to print on some Bare Metal Foil decal paper.
Now you're all probably thinking if everything is the same what defferentiates everyones models? If they get posted they all will look the same just w/ different backgrounds.
HERE'S WHERE IT CAN GET INTERESTING!!! A roster is composed of all the participating club members and say the number is 135. Now everyone gets assigned a unit number for their model truck and trailer just like a driver get assigned a truck. On the decal file (WORD) that gets sent everything is IDENTICAL except for the unit number that would be the assigned number per member. From my experience truck and trailer numbers sometimes get numbered by the last 4 didgets of the VIN. Let's say 120 of the participating members are building the Freightliner and trailer. So we start out assigning unit numbers at 5000 and end at 5120 for the trucks and for the trailers use a five didgets from the VIN say start at 63000 ending at 63125.
The other 15 people building non conformance vehicles say such as the AMT 99 Silverado for a shop truck number that 125 or if someone has a John Deer BackHoe (For shop use and clearing snow off the drop yard) give that an odd ball unit number L45 (L standing for loader and 45 being the 45th piece of equiptment assinged to the shop)
Here's what separates 120 Freightliners and 120 Great Dane trailers from looking identical. Everyone can detail their truck different. You have 2,000 trucks in a trucking company they all will be different but yet the same. Each driver has their own mess in the cab beit sloppy pigs (using the passenger side floor for a trash can or the interior is cleaner than an upscale resteraunt. The weathering is always different. Did the driver just pull his rig out of the wash rack at the company terminal or at a Blue Becon or has he/she been running like mad in the middle of December w/ road salt all over it.
Something else was the trailer dropped at an urban warehouse where some local kids got board and had some cans of spray paint.
Are there mis matched mudflaps, everynow and then there's always that careless tireguy at the shop who will switch out a flat tire say on the right front outside of the trailer instead of using a clean rim he just puts a rim that was at one time an inside rim that's filthy stained w/ brake dust and road wash.
Inside the truck does the driver have a TV in the bunk or is the log book thrown up on the dash. Did he/she put their favorite NASCAR driver's number sticker on the side of the truck. Or did he/she have a flat out on the road and strapped the flat casing (dismounted tire) to the cat walk. THE IDEAS ARE ENDLESS!!!
This is just my thought process...

Those are some pretty cool ideas, Scott. Having an actual "TSF World Wide Logistics" fleet would be pretty cool! And if forum members are ever at a show together, displaying them side by side would be very neet!
I will admit that when I first suggested a Fleet Truck idea my thought was that the participants would build a fleet type truck of their choosing. Someone might build a P-I-E Peterbilt, or a P-I-E/Nationwide Kenworth, or a Matlack Mack, or...well, you get the idea. This build surely has taken on a life of its own, and gone in a direction that I don't think anyone really could have predicted.
