As promised, I finally have a few pics showing what's been done to the Bison so far. I will be painting the frame and suspension parts as one assembly like the factory did back then. Like I said, progress has been slow, but this kit has been less than fun to work with up to this point. I am actually considering chopping the frame and making it a daycab or even fabricating a log truck out of it as these were very popular as pulp haulers here in New York. I would have to fabricate a crane though and I'm not sure I could do that and make it look realistic. I'm also still deciding on a color combo for this truck. I have thought of a few schemes and may post a poll here looking for what y'all think. Anyways, enough rambling...here's some images:

Brian I've been tracking this one from the start. It looks and sounded like it became a major frustration for you. I do simpithize with you cause my kit look to be ok. As for now it looks like time away from it done it's justice. My KWs and PETEs (from there factories) still have all the chassis & components painted all the same color as customer order. Now on the other hand all the Montreal trucks (class 3) all their chassis & components are all gloss black. Good luck

The first coats of blue are on the frame people. I am usinf Duplicolor and it's a dep metallic blue. I can tell you that getting the paint into all the crevices of an assembled frame leave ALOT to be desired. I will have to pick up another can of paint for the cab as well. I will probably paint the cab and hood blue and then paint the fenders, aircleaner and other miscellaneous accessories silver. I am also planning on dulling the chrome for the bumper and grille as well to give it a more realisitic look to it. I will post pics this evening when I have made some more progress. Stay tuned!

I can tell you that getting the paint into all the crevices of an assembled frame leave ALOT to be desired. That´s the problem with a spray can. With Airbrush the color can be proportioned better. But the frame looks nevertheless already quite good.

I have also noticed that on the 1:1 trucks there is the same coverage issue. It's not uncommon to see runs here and bare or thin spots there on American trucks. For the most part the frame and suspension are covered on this truck so I'm happy. I am still debating on whether I'm going to weather the suspension to bring out the details or if I'm going to leave it as new from the factory. Depends on how the urge hits when I get to that point...

Finally I have made some progress on this truck. I have been hacking away on the motor this afternoon and am just about ready to shoot some paint onto that as well. I am contemplating shooting it either silver or the metallic blue I painted the frame and chassis with. Kinda like a mild custom if ya know what I mean. I'm just not sure if that metallic green would look good with the rest of the truck. I'm also wondering what color the transmission was when it came stock from the factory. I'm thinking it was painted a different color than that metallic green, but I could be wrong. Anyone have any input?

Tranny's came in black or red oxide in the era that truck was built. Now a days there just black.

Isn't it great how someone else's efforts can inspire others to press ahead with projects that are giving you headaches? ;D I agree with you there. I hope you are having better luck with it. I built an original issue Bison yrs ago and my frame was ok. I hope my reissued Bison is in good shape. I'll know when I unpack.

I'm going to get busy with this one again. I have run into a REAL issue with it though. I tried to dull down the chrome a bit to more accurately represent the actual metalwork and in doing so the chrome now looks like plain silver paint with very little, if any luster whatsoever. It definitely looks more aluminum than chrome, that's for sure. I'm not sure just how good the pieces are going to look when glued to the completed truck.

The only pieces that are still chrome are the headlight buckets. Everything else is duller than Aunt Rita's vacation pics from the MidWest Bridge Tournament.
