Hey Guys, After finding out that Photo bucket lost almost all of my photos. I finally got outside today and took some. The two trench boxes are scratch built and patterned after some I used at work ( I really hate using them too). The yellow one is the small one. I painted the steel color first. Then painted vaseline where I wanted the metalic color to show thru. I think it looks more realistic. What do you think? The large trench box was pained a red then left in a bucket of water and some steel wool. the rust if real! Enjoy and as always comments are welcome. Gator

Those trench boxes look great! The red one is very realistic, and would look good in a diorama. How did you make them?

Okay now let me get this straight. You not only want to look at my models, you want me to tell you how I built them ;D I don't know if I can describe the build process. However they are rather simple structures. If you can find one being used in your area take some pics and measurements. You can also check with the equipment rental places, some of them rent trench shoring and boxes. As for the weathering on the yellow box. I painted it with steel metalizer first. Then brush painted it with vaseline where I wanted the steel to show through. The technique works I just need to fine tune it a bit. The larger box was painted flat red and then immersed in rusty water for a month or so, there was steel wool in the water. the rust is real! hope that helps some Jim. Gator

Hey Marc,
I saw a set of these the other day which were extendalble in the middle, by just pulling a pins moving the sides out and reinserting the pins. Was a really cool setup. I love the weathering on yours though. Gives them that used and abused look. Drive on Bro!!!

The ones we would use were rentals and you ordered the width you needed. I hate using them.Because you usually are maxed out handling one, and its a pain digging in one. I really don't like them. The only one I do like are the fixed side boxes for digging deep manholes, or better yet sheet pile. Gator

The closest I ever got to this kind of work was creek beds and water shed ditches in the woods. Gotta pleas the environmentalist and keep it clean!
