Kerry, In regards to the outriggers on the low boy. Another method being that you have the hydraulic jacks on the car body.is to put large wooden blocks under it so the rear area is not touching the trailer. Oh I do not know what you have in mind for the cab roof. But leave a space for a window fixed in the ceiling or one that would prop up at like a 75degree angle. This is so the operator can look up and not have to lean forward to look up. And is the reason that so many crane today have cabs that tilt back to allow the operator to look up and not strain his neck. A common malady amongst crane operators are messed up necks!
Be Well Gator

Thanks Paul, I've been so busy lately and not had time to look around on here. Do you have a thread of your concrete pumper? Love to see it.. But your right I think, this thing is taking up some space man... Kerry Wait til the boom is together!! Gator is correct. Most times the main body is jacked up and cribbing put under it so the weight is off the tracks. Cross chained. Flag the trailer and wide load signage. On the pumper all 3 sections of pump boom extend and it rotates 360 degrees, out riggers extend and telescope and hydralic jacks level and lift the entire unit. pete389.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=misc&action=display&thread=3757

Hi Gator, hope all is well. I understand about the blocks under the machine. While I was there taking pics and such they did have one on a low-boy and I got to see how they haul those things around. You should see the ole Mack they use. Though about building it. Maybe later. Thanks for the tip on the window on the top but I did see that the host had one and I do plan on putting one in. There's still a lot of work to do on this thing. Paul is way ahead of me ha ha. But Paul it's funny you said that about the wide load signage because just today I paid for the set-up for that. Should be coming in mail soon. But I do plan on beefing up my truck and trailer quite a bit. Outriggers is one of the things. Originally I glued what I have now closed on my trailer, now I need to open them and add more to it. Anyways, theres still work to be done. This weekend I hope to finish up the drums that feed the gantry and maybe close in the cab and work on some detail. we'll see. I did check out your pumper Paul and I do see what you mean now. Thats one badazz truck. I enjoyed looking at it and the detail you added. How long did it take you to build? Thanks guys for your input. It's always welcomed and appreciated very much. Kerry

Hello Gentlemen, This update is from some work I did on mostly detail items. I can't believe how much time this work consumes. But in the first photo I wanted to add some working hinges to the cover on the non operator side so that I could open the cover to gane entry to the working parts inside. It sure makes it alot easier to work with. Next I continued working on the rear part of the gantry, adding the small linking items onto the main portion. Theres still much more left on this part as well. While those were drying I started putting together a few detail parts for the inside part of the cab. Even though I don't exactly know everything going on in that cab I think I can make a pretty good w.a.g. and get it done. I am waiting for some rod material to start on the operating levers and such. But I think it's coming along nicely. and lastly I went back to the linking items to the front of the gantry that connects the gantry to the machine. After this is completed I can get a good idea on how I want the counter weight portion to be. But my crane is coming along. I am wondering and to be honest just alittle confused on how I am going to make the rounded corners or edges on the exterior walls where they connect with the top. Their rounded edges or corners and I'm scratching my head on it. Any suggections? But thanks for looking. Kerry

Kerry, I like what I see. You've done some nice work there. On the gantry however there seems to be one piece that is to long throwing the whole left side of the hinge off a little bit. For any of the uneducated( familiar with cranes) your WAG is working well. Looking forward to further updates!

Hi Gator, you know I seen that something wasn't quite right on that and now that you mention it and looking at the picture closely I agree with you. In the picture you can really see the problem. Thanks so much. I will correct it. The WAG has been good to me most of the time through the years. Thanks again my friend. Kerry

What attention to detail! This is coming along so nicely. I have a suggestion for rounded corners. Weld glue a piece of square rod in the inside corner of the joint. Then file or scrape the outer corner to the radius you want.
I have done a ton of research on cranes, and your components have such an authentic look, it's amazing. Keep it up! Dan

Thanks Dan, That's a very good idea. I was sorta thinking of the same thing but wasn't sure if it would work. Thanks for your comments Dan, I am going to use your suggestion. Kerry

Hi Kerr Looking real neat and taking shape just nicely !!!!!!!!! How did you do your hinges and get them to work ? I made a few attempts but failed for my locker doors and took the easy route of gluing mine shut. I can still display what would be the contents of the locker outside, but would have been nice to have mine working. The jib frame is getting to be a work in its own right. What height will this be once completed Nige

Hey Nige, Thanks for your comments. I assume when you talk about jib, your talking about what I know as the gantry. But yes the jib is like taking a life on it's own kinda. For me it's so much fun and I only hope that everything will tie together smoothly. Time will tell. I'm sorry that your hinges didn't work out but I started with (I don't know the thickness) some flat stock and cut and shaped it to make the complete hinge. That's as in it's one piece. After I had the shape I wanted, I cut it in the middle to separate it into two pieces. I then took some .040" rod and cut it to fit the two hinge parts. Drilled a tiny hole through the middle of the rod for the wire tie and cut the new "tube" into three parts. The two outside pieces goes to one side of the hinge and the single middle piece goes to the other. Glued them and let sit for a few minutes and then put them together with a tiny piece of a wire tie from a bread bag. I put them together rather quickly so as to make sure they fit together nicely and then let them sit and dry really good. I hope this helps Nige and I hope you understand. But I can make one up this weekend for you and take pictures and post them if you want. No problem. In fact maybe do so and put a new thread in the how-to's huh. Anyways thanks again Nige and I bid you guys a good night. Kerry
