This is my first shot at resin cab and scratch build frame. I never thought I would build anything as old as this but when I witnessed the birth of brand-new cab for the 281/351 Peterbilt I couldn´t resist. Even though there are cast 281/351 cabs available in the world, a friend of mine thought he would do better and made his own master out of Revell - Monogram 359 cab. With the cab shell, the interior parts came along, just as the outter cab details like the mirrors, air horn, breather, luber finger, exhaust pipe and so on. Also some frame parts like fuel and air tanks, cab step/battery box, brake chambers and such.
The 20 pcs. batch was sold out immediatelly and most of the sets ended up in the hands of local modelers. I am lucky to be one of them.
My plan is to build a logger coupled with AMT Peerless logging trailer. I am hesitating between the classic look and flat fenders version.
My knowledge of logging trucks is not very big and I would appriceate any info or help along the way. All I know is I have to extend the frame behind the drives for propper steering. For a truck of 1950´s there won´t be no air ride suspension. I am thinking of Hendrickson walking beam. A turbo charged engine is probably a must for the forrest conditions. I never built a twin shifting model. Is it okay for a logging truck to have a two gear boxes set up? I hope so for I want to build it that way. I do not have any drives at the moment unless I steal them from the snap kit. Should I go for this kind of axles
or something like this
Lots of things to decide. Flat fenders or round fenders? Twin shift or single shift? Hendrickson walking beam or something else? What drives to look for?
I already started working on the frame and cab but all the directions are open yet. What do think? Your opinions are welcome.
