I finally decided to get this thing started and have decided to build it box stock, and since I am not there yet on weathering I am going for a cleaned up truck that's only seen a few loads(basically factory stock). I decide to go with the dual exhaust option along with the square tanks because I like the look of them better on this truck. The cab is in the body shop and will be candy red, but the rest is coming along.

Hey man,
You are right! The square tanks are looking good on this truck! I'm always astonished about the american coe's! How the driver can step into the bed or get in / out his clothing? The dash is completely surrounded and the engine tunnel is very high. There is no free space between the seats to step. That's a torture chamber. I'm 5 ft 9 inches tall and a european truck with a flat roof just is close inide but the engine tunnel is just 4 inches higher than the floor ground. But the american coe's must be terrible for the drivers!

I like the square tanks, too. And the blue is nice.
Martin, some of the later model US COEs did have flat floors unlike the 1970s models. COEs are pretty much a thing of the past here. I think I've seen 2 or 3 in the last 6 months.

I like this one, I have always like the square ,and the dual exhausts. The color looks good. Though all the trucks like this ,That I remember seeing were pretty much plane Jane white red or blue. Back then if a owner operator bought one of these he most likely didn't have the money for a optional paint color change. And the fleets well they were fleets and went with the lowest cost. But what you have going on here is going to be nice. be Well Gator

Thank you every one for the nice words on my build so far. I decided to put another coat on the cab to darken the blue a tad, and I was not real happy with how the roof looked. Going to try and decal it here soon, and maybe if lucky can clear it tomorrow. Gator, I think you are probably correct on the color simplicity, and from everything I found in pictures it was either one color or a simple two tone paint scheme. I guess my dad knew a guy that had one and I think he said it was a late 70's model that the guy bought new. It was a metallic red color close to maroon in color I guess, but it was in the early to mid 1980's when I saw it and I was a little kid so can't remember. I don't know if the guy had it painted or what but that was my inspiration went I went to paint this model. I just had to go to Plan Blue due to not finding a metallic maroon rattle can I liked, and the candy red I had was no good.

Hey you are doing just fine on this model. And I said about the colors. "Was what Irememberd" And I am 65 yrs old now. But build it your way and have fun doing it. In my opinion that is what the hobby is about. The museum quality models are great and salute those who build them. It is just not for me. I use my imagination and employ some modelers license.
be Well Gator
