A friend and fellow modeller brought this photo to my attention, as both a model railroader who favours the Canadian National and a truck builder this one just said "build me"! Plus I had the City Delivery kit as a youngster long ago and more recently added one to the "stash" of unbuilt kits: Oc course, the more I looked at photo the more I saw where 1:1 truck differed from the kit. 6 hole steel disk wheels compared to spokes, rectangular fuel tank vs round, smooth sides on van body rather than kit's fluted sides....... 6 hole steel wheels were made using leftover AMT 10 hole ones from parts box, I used the ones intended for inner dual applications as centre hole was open and no lug nut detail to contend with. 8 of the 10 holes filled with .080 styrene rod, after cleanup additional 4 holes drilled. Lug nuts are detail castings from Tichy Train Group. (Another model railroading tie-in!) Brake drums on rear are from kit, drive hubs from parts box. Front drums were adapted from Ford Louisville parts kit donor. I also cut a section out of rim to make it narrower as tires looked fairly skinny in prototype photo:

Van body was assembled with extra interior bracing then sanded smooth with belt sander (!) .015 styrene sheet overlays provided smooth surface, Evergreen styrene angle and strip framed corners & edges. Length of half round styrene strip added to represent rub rail along bottom edge of van body. Kit steer axle is molded in such a way as to make adding steerable wheels a fairly simple process: Strictly guesswork as to what is under the cab, I did take snapshots of a similar Ford C chassis a couple years ago which had 6 hole steel disk wheels, 6 cylinder gas engine and manual transmission so I decided to add these to model. Transmission is from Lindberg Dodge L700 kit, engine is from AMT 1960 Chevy pickup and will be altered somewhat to look more like Ford product. Fuel tank is styrene box with .005 brass wrapper:

Very nice start on the Ford, Robert. I was actually thinking of one of these as my next build so I will be paying close attention.

Engine completed, transmission still needs some work where shift linkage attaches: Lindberg L700 Dodge kit provided another useful part, air cleaner which formed the basis for brake booster. Styrene strip and bolt head castings also used, copper wire brake lines. Lines to front of truck still to be added: Ribs on "package shelf" behind seat added with .010 x .060 styrene strip, access panel made with .010 styrene sheet & strip:

Thanks guys - Ray, I remember buying some kits from you a few years ago, this little guy was one of them! Bench seat was taken from 1960's Chevy pickup kit and reworked to make 2 piece split bench style. Free standing door handles and window cranks made from dressmakers pins, kit box and "Ford Medium Duty Trucks" book made by photographing 1:1 items (kit box top cut and folded flat) then printing on decal paper. Box was formed & glued together with balsa block added to keep it rigid, book cover applied to .020 styrene: Frame and van body painted, colour is Tamiya spray can TS12 orange. Some spots on van body I was not happy with (runs) they can be fixed though - after all, that's why fine sandpaper was invented! Also visible on van body sides are rivet lines added using Micro-Mark rivet decals:

Merci Alain, engine is now installed. Styrene strip and a couple scrap box parts used to build up shifter linkage and parking brake linkage details on transmission. Radiator and coolant header tank still to be added along with forward driveshaft.
