Dennis, I did not know that you had a mini machine shop!!! lol drill press, belt sander. What other cool tools and machines do you have?
The tracks are looking really good. A big improvement!
I wonder if you can finish this and take it to the Spring Thaw show in March?

Thanks Marc. I purchased the belt sander for modifying the shoes. I can't imagine sanding everything by hand. The only other power tool is a band saw that I've owned for quite a few years...used originally for woodwork. The one I use the most is my drill press...very handy. As far as being finished in time for the Spring Thaw show, I don't see that happening, there's still a lot left to do.

The following pictures show the modifications made. In the first picture, 1” CPVC was inserted and 1/4” was left exposed. The exposed part was wrapped with .040’ styrene for height correction:

The record snowfall has been preventing me from using my spray booth. Not being able to prime and check the sanded parts is a real pain. New front and rear idler wheels have been fabricated. The fronts are 1-1/2” CPVC, cut to 17 scale inches wide, the rears are 1-1/4” CPVC, cut to 17 scale inches wide. All wheels are wrapped with (2) .020” X .250” styrene strips. .080 styrene is used for all centers: The inner radius was made with Bondo glazing and spot putty: Modifications Here’s a quick mock-up: Modifications to the undercarriage have been made (not completed): Here’s some pics of the blade before any modifications: The inside of the blade has been re-lined with .030” styrene to achieve a radius, and scored on the back and bent to simulate original: After the addition of the wear plates at the base of the blade, a piece of .015” styrene was installed above them and will be blended in:

Well it’s been about a month since the last post. I’ve managed to get a few things done. I purchased these at the local CAT dealer: A coat of CAT yellow primer was applied and new track rollers and supports have been fabricated: Here’s the modifications to the blade arm and slam locks installed: The cab received a coat of primer and grab handles have been installed. Here’s a quick mockup of the exhaust stacks and air intakes: Here’s a couple shots of the ROPS:

One word ..... incredible Rod Thanks Rod. I knew when I started this project it would take a lot of work. The more I work on it, I see new things that still need to be accomplished.

Dennis, Your work on this model is right up there with a lot of the top builders around the world. Your attention to detail is amazing. I never really looked at this dozer/toy , as a possible subject for a build. But you have shown me a reason to reconsider that.

I still have a lot to learn about model building. I purchased a parts manual for the D11 and it's loaded with detail drawings of all the parts. I received it a few days ago. I might back track on a few things and do them over.
