On Saturday nights I have the privilege of being one of the Track Officials and Chaplin at Sunset Speedway in Banks, Oregon. The USA-1 Rolling Thunder Big Rig were our big draw of the night. They fielded 7 rigs for us. To the best of their knowledge this was the first time for rigs such as this to run on dirt. To say that the racing was exciting would be an understatement. Seeing these trucks going 3 wide into turn 3-4 was pretty cool. Link to the rest of the gallery. photobucket.com/USA-1RollingThunder

About 15 years ago rigs like this raced here at the Red River Valley Speedway. (all of one night) It's a high banked 1/2 mile dirt track. Quite slick when it's wet, due to our HEAVY gumbo soil) but tacky FAST when packed. The drivers/owners did not want a wreck so not much of an effort was put on. P*ssed ALOT of people off and the show was never brought back. For what it's worth though they seemed like they could get up and go if they wanted to.....
