4 - The first AMT truck kit was the Dirt Hauler, I'd say $5 5 - As far as I know, AMT is still in Troy, MI

I will take a shot at your trivia AMT stood for Aluminum Metal Toys 1969 was the first California Hauler No the T did not stand for truck, as there our a lot of models from the 60's and 70's that had a T in front of the number First truck models cost around 5 dollars Ertl bought out AMT in 1981, so I would say that 1981 or 1982 would be the move out year Jeff

AMT did stand for Aluminum Metal Toys T500 was the stock number of the kit the other 500 stood for the price of the kit hinse T500 500. They didn't use decimal points but it would be Kit T500-$5.00. just after that kit was released they stopped putting the prices on the box.
The Pete was the first 1/25th scale semi kit they produced. It was produced in 1968 without sleeper but not released until 1969. Followed by T500 with the sleeper in 1970.
From my understanding the T stood for TOY before the stock number. That was changed in the late 70's to a four diget number.
They were then bought out by the Ertl company of Dyersville Iowa in 1981 era. The molds and everything were moved to that location. What was left of the molds that is. According to rumor alot got destroyed when the Troy plant had a big fire.
On some of the older kits you can get a rough idea of when a kit was produced by the numbers on the back of the decal sheet. The last number in a cluster of numbers below the kit stock number would tell when the kit was produced. The 3 digets listed would be the month and year. ie. 570 May,1970

Interesting trivia. One more question. When was AMT involved with Matchbox? Was that in the '80s?

Lesney corporation (Matchbox) had their hands on AMT for only a couple years. Later 1978 to about 1981 when Ertl purchased the franchise from them. I don't remember for sure but I think Ertl ran with the Matchbox name into 1982 thats when Lesney went bankrupt. Then the kits were AMT/ERTL.
