Hi all I need some details for a Detroit Diesel 6-71 probably the most popular diesel engine in the USA, as I remarked. It was used nearly everywhere trucks, boats, generators, cranes, tractors, busses and and and… I need the measures how long, high and bright the engine block with the cylinder head is. I posted a pic to make it easier. Red Green Blue Yellow Thanks a lot for your efforts. So long Arnd

Did the best I could, the engine in my Brockway isn't real accessable, but here goes: red(bottom of block to top of head): 27" green(length of block): 37.5" yellow(width of block): 12" blue(rear of bell housing to front of water pump): 48" Hope this helps! steve

I've got another question regarding the good ol' 6-71 Deitrot Diesel... I've been trying to collect as many documentation photos as possible, but what I've noticed is that in some shots the exhaust manifold is mounted on the right side of the engine... just above the blower... and in others it's hangin' off the left side! Were there multiple configurations of the same basic motor, or am I seeing things? I'd really like to build one of those classic six-bangers for nostalgic reasons, but I may just be forced to opt for the 8V-71. There are TONS of kits with those in them, and if I go big scale, I can get all my details and dimensions off of those...

While I'm at it, I'm seeing some pictures of those motors with the blower on the left side and others with it on the right! What the dealio?!
