Hi, I have a question on this Revell AG CAT 3408. The pictures show my engine in progress. There is a putty around the engine core. I have looked through a lot of pictures of CAT 3408 available on the net. But I have never seen the recessed part between the oil pan and the clutch. Also the two tiny tubes running from the oil pan to the clutch housing. Can somebody tell me if this could be real or is it just another trick made by a kit manufacturer? Also, does someone have a pic of twin turbo 3408? I would highly appreciate that. Jarda

Thanks liner. Now I remember that I have read somewhere that CAT 3408 did not have a jake brake. So, was the retarder used instead? And, was it standard equipment or just optional?

Thanks liner. Now I remember that I have read somewhere that CAT 3408 did not have a jake brake. So, was the retarder used instead? And, was it standard equipment or just optional? Jarda Hey Jarda, It was called a clutch brake. It worked like a jake breake and helped slow the truck down. My 359 Pete I used to have had one on it. It's a handle on the steering column that looks just like the trolley valve for the trailer brakes and you just pulled down on the lever and it put pressure against the clutch. I don't know if this was standard or not but it did work. Not as good as jakes but anything helped lol! Hope this is what you were looking for. Joshua

Thank you very much Joshua, 359 Pete is where I want to install my 3408. The steering column in the kit has two levers, one on the left, one on the right. Is that okay for a truck equipped with the clutch brake or should I add one more lever? And, if I may ask one more question... where on the 3408 engine was the power steering pump located? I assume it must have been somewhere on the back of the engine. But I would like to know the exact location.
Thanks Jarda

Here is a pic of the trolley brake lever on the right side of steering column. The P.S. pump is front mounted on the drivers side lower left and is belt driven. It is a small vane pump the reservoir is on the firewall or on a bracket on the radiator frame. Paul
