Hi folks This is another of my famous "GET ROUND TO ITS" that has been stalled for over seven years and that I must get my finger out my A** and do some work on. It is based on the Esci Transit van that has been long out of production but would be snapped up by us all if re-released by someone. And what about a new style Transit or other small commercial van, drop side or Luton body in 1/24 to get a variation going of subjects. I got scunnered with this when I dropped the "drop-side" body and then did not like how I had done the hinges and corner posts anyhow. By that time the owner had sold the van on so I could not go back for better reference pics of it. I even put a set of ear pieces from a walkman set inside with the cable out the floor to connect to the walkman (shows you how old this project is) to mimic a radio blaring in the van. It is the intention to attempt a partial rebuild for the Commercial vehicle campaign on Armorama site which must have it complete by June I think. So hopefully some work in progress pics will follow here too. It was placed for safe keeping in my home made spray booth constructed from an old electronic Golf Ball word processor, typewriter/printer housing when I reorganised my shed. Hope you like Nige

Nice one nige, I love the old transit van, I bought one cheap from a trader site and chopped it into a cab and chassis with a view to turning it a 80s period tow wagon, might even finish it one day! Where did the rear wheels come from? they look duals to me. The spraybooth has a real 'mad scientist' look about it.

Hi there
They are duals. It has been a while since I had this truck in front of me at the workbench and I forget where I aquired the duals from. I think it was from an American pick up truck that I got and was not so keen on so became a doner.
I had a fair amount of dust to blow off the truck before I could take photos. But I hope it won't have time to gather too much dust again.
Thanks again for kind comments

Hi Kelvin
It is 2.40 am here in Scotland just now so too late to go raking in the shed. I will try to knock up a couple of pics for you tomorrow. The drop side body is not fixed so can show you how the chassis was put together. If I remember right there is a bulkhead piece for between the cab and the load bay that I think I used. Will rejog my memory. Will need to hunt out the plans too if I am going to push this one on.
I do believe I got a couple of brochure drawings and pics for the transits kicking about too. All the stuff on this model got mixed up and hidden when we moved house a couple of years ago.
Speak soon

Hi Kelvin
Regarding Transkits,,,,,,,,,,,,,no, I had some basic stuff off the internet on the lovely Transit, brochures and the like, but cause this has sat so long, it is trying to find all the stuff again.
I had moved house in the meantime, so all stuff got boxed away, sorted through or thinned out before I moved. I doubt if I would have throw this stuff out but it is a bleeding nightmare reuniting parts, plans and the built stuff.
If you have the plans handy for scanning that would be a great start. What have you done to your Transit? Any pics? Can you send any pics of that lovely pic up too. That looks great, or were you intending to build it?
All the very best in 2008

Stripping down the model and paint Chucked the parts in a biscuit box and added a bottle of brake fluid,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,then ran around frantic looking for the plastic buscuit box I should have used as the tin box seams ain't watertight (silly bugger) I added BF to the lid to remind me next time hopefully Was soaked in the fluid for about four days and most of the paint had started to peel Tried to keep skin contact with the fluid down to the minimum How to please the mrs,,,,,,,,,, make a real mess in the bathroom sink Not sure if I would try this in a fancy new plastic bathroom set but did not seem to affect the enamel sink I used a toothbrush to try to scrub off the old paint but there are a lot of stubborn areas This is how it looks with parts broken down,,,,,,,,,, cab is getting another dunk in the fluid to try to loosen the stubborn areas. If no success with the last of the paint guys,,,,,,,,,,,,, ANY IDEAS? Nige
