I want to build one of those Galaxy 5th wheel trailers for some drag cars and i was wandering if they would work hooked up to a semi tractor? I would appreciate any or all opinions either way on this subject. Thanks and I for one really enjoy this forum and all the guys on it. jim

i think you'll find it's designed to hook up to the SUV type vehicles, Dodge Ram's, Ford F350's (or F Trucks as they're called here in Australia). You can get the 5th wheel conversion for these vehicles, i've seen them listed quite often on ebay. Failing that, i've often seen a tow behind version of this trailer, it just hooks up to the normal tow ball on the SUV.

I've seen them hooked to semi cabs before. I pass one everyday on my schoolbus route. But its a fifth wheel camper trailer instead of a box trailer. It's hooked to a pete cabover. Different looking.

I have seen trailers like that being pulled by the smaller trucks made by Peterbilt , Freightliner and International , with western hauler type beds.

My bad, i wasnt thinking of the light trucks (although we dont have the ones mentioned above) normally just the asian stuff (hino, mitsubishi, isuzu etc). I was just meaning that with the size of the galaxy kit, it's more likely to be used by the 'family racers' towing sprint cars, show cars etc.
If the car inside was more of a nascar etc then it would most likely be inside one of the AMT style race trailers hauled by a big rig, or at least it would over here.

I plan to hook one upto a modified pete 377. You could haul it behind a rig set up like these: www.rvtruck.com/rv_truck_005.htm. That's what they are designed to haul.

I dont know if i'd trust that company with a huge project like that. The spelling and grammar on their home page is terrible, if they cant even get that right can you trust them with a project that requires even more attention to detail?

Yeah, They are on the low end of things in that area, but it was the first one I could think of. Here are some more: www.showhauler.com/toterhome.htmlboydsconversions.com/www.kibbi.com/Home.aspx

To put everything in prospective here, I too have the Galaxy 5th wheel trailer the same as in rocket's reply and they're just to big and wide for the standard 1/25 scale SUV or pickup if you prefer and to small for a 1/25 rig or tractor. To make things look right, they're only really suited for the mid size trucks, ie: Ford F450, etc or the Chevy counterpart.
I'm personally going to be hooking mine up behind an older style resin F600 made into a crewcab version.
Cheers...Charlie

Personally if I were to haul some drag cars with big rig I would use one of the NASCAR trailers. Same stuff the pro drag racers use. I have a Galaxie trailer too but it is the tag along. That one is still unbuilt after XX years.

How about a short Louisville Ford or a Top Kick puller ?? Say a short flat bed with the fifth wheel set up. I do see some pulling a three or four car trailer for the auction company here. One GMC had three Hummers on it. How about the little Dodge L 700 that just got reissued or the Ford C 600 stake truck without the stakes. These are little units and would not look so overbearing on the smaller trailer.
