I'm curently working on a GMC Astro (don't think I'll have it done for the CBP), and I have some questions on the engine. First: what model Detroit Diesel is this engine? Second: how in the heck did you guys get the engine in the frame? There is so much torque on the rear mounts when I try to make the front sit down I'm affraid that I'm going to break something. Any ideas?

8V-71, don't know about the fit in the frame as I have not built one since the mid seventys! On other kits with a tight fit, I have found that inserting the trans. end first and twisting the rear mounts in place folowed by the front mount works well. If the fit is so tight that breaking the frame is a concern, you may want to trim the mounts or clamp the frame untill it relaxes. I presume your frame suffers from the warping problems I have heard of. Good luck.

The frame is quite srtaight, but I think the exhaust manafolds are too low. They're hitting the top of the frame and making a fulcurm point. I'm giong to see about raising them up a little. Couldn't hurt.

Hey Jim, i had the same problem with mine in the end i notched the top of the gearbox at the back which allowed it to sit up against the crossmember and brought the front of the engine down level. once fitted the crossmember hides the cut. hope this helps

I know you're all dieing to know how I solved this problem. Well, after further review it turned out I had the exhaust manafolds mounted on the opposite site of the engine. Duh!!! All better now.
