Quick question....will any of the AMT chrome wheels interchange with the Astro kit? I am looking at replacing the 5 spoke wheels with chrome versions to better represent an Owner/Operator version of this truck. Any suggestions or help is appreciated.

Bri,
I would think they would if they're the ones with the metal rod. I know the ones from the GMC General kit are the snap on kind. I'm planning on using those, but I'm not exactly sure how yet.

I agree, as long as it has the metal rod, you're good to go. On the General, with the snap ons, you would have to use the axles also. Same goes for some of the early Pete 359 kits.

You will have trouble using the General axles on then Astro as the General frame is about 1/8" wider. I know, I've tried. I'm also planning on using chrome disks on my Astro along with the General air-ride suspension. Maybe!

Stick with the Astro axles, just bore the housing out to accept a length of Plastruct tubing that fits the wheels. Insert a section of appropriately sized metal rod in the tube for added strength.

If you use the Chrome spokes from the Ford Stake Truck they will work. You will have to use that brake drum also. The GMC General didn't have spoke wheels with it. The front wheels from the ford kit used the same axle pins as the Astro so there shouldn't be a problem. If you wanted to go with a dish style wheel then the ones from the ford louisville will work just fine.

That swap sounds like a good one simply because I'm converting both the Luisville Ford and the Stake Truck to fire engines using the old AMT ALF kits. Those trucks will have painted wheels instead of chrome to better replicate the actual commercial trucks that were converted to fire engines.

That's the look I'm going for! Think the disks really dress it up a bit. Sort of the owner-operator look.
