I am diesel dumb! The Pete wrecker kit calls for the engine to be matte white. What is correct? Or should I paint it yellow and 'pawn it off' as a Cat? T.I.A. !!

The era most of the Pete's are modeled after the engine could be white or cummins biege. Peterbilt required there engines be white no matter who the manufacture was. The only pete kit that would be an exception would be the Italeri 377. Any discerning truck modeler would know it is a cummins engine paint cat yellow.

[/quot Like I said in my intro, I am just getting back into building. I also know next to nothing about trucks. So, I guess that I am not a ""discerning truck modeler "" and I apologize for I seemed to have asked a question that bothered you. Sorry ......I will not bother you again.

Im a truck mechanic and did not know that pete required its engines be white..seems kinda dumb but ive never been to worried about what peterbuilt did. Ive always worked for fleets and none have ever run peterbuilt so I was getting to this same question. being that its molded in a light color I beileve i may dust it in a bunch of different colors finising with flat black to get a blaah dirty look as thats what color any old heavy truck engine will end up no mater what it started out.

Hey I took no offense to the question nor did I mean to offend you in any way with my answer. It was not a bother to answer your question at all. I was just trying to merely point out that by painting the cummins cat yellow you wouldn't pass muster in a crowd of truck modelers. I work on trucks for a living and I model them as accurate as possible. I also compete in contests and judge contests. This is another reason why I pointed that out.

I made this mistake on my Stepps kit. In my defense i don't work or service these class 8 engines. And the last time i even looked under the hood of a class 8 truck was over 5-6 years ago.
