Ok, i know that a lot of the members on here are very biased when it comes to trucks and the powerplants used, so i'm sorry to say that this questn relates to a european engine...
For my crane that i'm building (see Demag Build, in other threads) i know that the actualy vehicle has a 16 ltr. Daimler Chrysler OM502LA V8 developing 448kW (609hp), If you've ever tried to get info on anything made by Daimler Chrysler then you'd know it's next to impossible. I've done a few google searches for this engine and keep coming up with a Mercedes Benz engine with the same name OM502LA however these are on average 150hp less...
Is this the same engine? if so, can i simply sand off the Merc badges from the engine i have here and use it or would this be frowned upon by 'the powers that be'?
I know i could just make a "curbside" model, but wheres the fun in that? it would be nearly as bad as the American LaFrance fire engine released last year from trumpeter, a nice looking model, but without an engine it seems incomplete...

MB use the same block thru the OM502 series. Just a different bore and stroke to alter the HP output (well, that plus alterations to the injection system etc). Externally the same. HTH.

Sweet, thanks for that, now i've just got to find the one i've got lying around.
Any suggestions what i could use as the 6 cylinder equivilent of an OM906LA (for the superstructure)? or is this just getting a little bit carried away?

Any of the Revell Mercedes Benz engines will do the job eg. the MB 1625 TLF 24/50 or any of the Unimog kits. Will only require some minor alteration and detailing to pass off as a 906.

Just remember Daimler Chrysler is the same as Daimler Benz. The company (chrysler) is part of the Mercedes clan. Also if you didn't know Freightliner is also in the same family. Daimler Benz has the highest stock in both of the companies. Thats why the Sprinter comes in two badges. Freightliner Sprinter and Dodge Sprinter. Sterling Trucks is also in that bunch due to Sterling being a Freightliner product.

Sterling Trucks is also in that bunch due to Sterling being a Freightliner product. They sell more sprinters as Dodges then as Freightliners. Mainly because Dodge has more dealer locations and can get the product out. Chrysler now is owned by some American investment firm. Diamler only has a 10-20% stake in the Chysler now.

Don't forget to include Western Star in that "bunch" as well.
