Ok, I've been racking my brain over this for the last two days, and I haven't come up with a decent solution. I know there have been a lot of Astros built on this forum recently, so I figured I'd ask.
Well here goes: I want to make the exhaust wider than the frame rails, but I do not know if the kit has all the parts. I see that Part #23 is used to hold the breather stack & the right exhaust stack, but I cannot figure out how to mount the left stack. There is a larger part that looks like Part #23 that is below it on the tree, and from some documentation I have seen that appears to hold the left stack. I guess the problem is the stacks themselves. The chrome ones have these big rectangular blocks on them to mount them to the frame, and I only have one of the non-chromed ones. I've seen models with the exhaust setup like this. In fact Phil Jensen's book has a couple of Titans like this, but I don't have a copy of the Titan instructions to see how it's done.
Does anybody have any ideas on this? Does anybody have any clue as to what I'm talking about?

All the parts are ther all you need is to do is get some stacks from your parts box.The bracket is larger than the right one and the luberfiner mounts on it toward the inside. You could also make straight pipes. Those detriots realy screamed with them.

Jim, remember also that the kit you're working with is a "2nd generation" issue of the kit. AMT made a few changes and every Astro released since has been the newer version. The dual exhaust with the rectangle mounts is one change, as are the mirrors, grabrails, turn signals, Dragfoiler wind fairing, and 2 or 3 other little things. The trucks in Phil Jensen's book are of the original issue Astro and Titan, which have the parts you see. Like plastictrucker said, just grab 2 stacks from the parts bin, and use the kit's breather stack. The other mount you mentioned is in fact for the driver's side stack. I wasn't crazy about the dual stacks in the kit with the rectangular mounts myself. In fact, most of these parts are appropriate if you were to take a General's grille, put it to the Astro cab, and you would have an early '80s Astro like the one I drove for short time.

I forgot to mention go to public home modeltrucks25 fotki.com. Under the archive of kit contents you'll find scans of astro instructions to do what you want. This site is a great reference tool.

Thanks for all you help, guys. I appreciate it. There in like the problem: I don't have a parts box yet. This Astro in only my third truck after the Revell Snap Peterbilt 359 & the Ford LN8000 (WIP), so I don't have a lot of extra parts. Wonder if I could "roll my own" with steel or aluminum tubing? Or cut those rectuagalur mounts off the existing ones.
I have checked the public fotki home of modeltrucks25, and it's a great site. Unfortunately the Titan instructions are not there & the Astro instructions are Second Generation. The GMC section does have some good info, and nice pics.

Thar' she blows! Thanks. Didn't look in that one because I didn't think it had a diesel engine option. Very cool! Now I just have to figure out what to do about the stacks themselves.
