I read somewhere ( I can't find it now ) about some folks using fingernail polish to paint thier models. Anyone in here doing this?? If so what do ya thin it with?? Will non-acetone remover work?? I've got a wife and 2 daughters, if this works I might not ever have to buy paint again I've already been lookin at what they have, there are some real good colors available...................do have to warn ya tho, it can be kinda hard explainin to your 11 yr old why you're lookin at her fingernail polish

I've read about it in the past also.If memory serves me right, you thin it down lacquer thinner.Nail polish is basically lacquer paint.

I have used it before on my street rods and Nascar projects. The polish is thinned with laquer thinner. Some polish, however, does not require thinning. be sure to check the consistency of the polish before thinning it. One other thing of note to mention here. many of these polishes have metalflake in it. The flakes are very large and do not work well with an airbrush. the flakes tend to jam the nozzle and the airbrush and can lead to literally hours of work trying to clean your gun in order to be able to use it again. There are some wild colors and your imagination is really the only limit when it comes to using the nail polish. Automotive clear is also a must to protect the finish from chipping, scratching and other harmful effects of being handled. I use 2-part automotive clear either from DuPont or another quality automotive paint manufacturer. Hope this helps.

thanks guys!
Ithink I might give it try.
I did notice that some of the ones I looked at had large metal flakes in it....don't think they would like right on a model anyways.....an d if they mess your airgun up they sure ain't worth it,lol.
Some of the other seemed to have small flakes in it, like regular model metal flake, not sure if I wanna try them now or not, lol.
Thanks again guys
Anthony

Well Bri, should've listened to ya....but me bein from Mo. and all, Couldn't do much without it cloggin up my airbrush But that was one of the reasons I wanted to try it. A lot of the metal flake polish colors would look great on a model

Sorry about your luck Anthony. Just take your time now and make sure the flakes are COMPLETELY out of your gun. If they aren't your next few paint jobs will look horrendous to put it mildly. It will take an hour at least to get all the flakes out of your gun, trust me.

What tip did you use...It will clog a #3 tip but should be fine with a #5 tip.

I guess it's a #3, ti's the only one I have for it and it definitly clogged it up I've had it for a long time and really don't remember what it came with. I've got an old binks also, but couldn't get it to work at all when I started workin on models again.

One thing with any lacquer, check it on the plastic and compatability with primer or you will have a problem.

i have painted quite a few cars over the years with nail polish,i have used the avon colour morphing on a couple of truck cabs with good results, for a show once we put it on a turntable and every time you looked it was a different shade, the only ploblem i have came across is using a good quality auto thinner it does at times take it toll in the seals in the gun, i will see if i can dig out the trucks i painted with it i have them stashed away for a rebuild down the track,
