I went this evening to get a few bottles of paint.I ended up walking out with an Autocar.I was going to mail order one.I figure the price is about the same.I have to drive about 30 miles.Three of them all about the same distance away closed in the past year or so.I figure I had better try and buy more off the guy before he's gone also.WE had better shop local,or getting stuff will be that much harder.I ordered the up coming macks from him also.

I know what you're saying about supporting the LHS. If mine doesn't have what I want in stock, he will order it for the same price as on the internet but with no shipping cost. He can't get out of production so I have to go to an internet dealer that has them. I have gotten some off eBay but it's been awhile because the prices have gotten to high for my billfold and some of the shipping charges are outrageous.

I would much rather go to a LHS to buy my kits, parts, and supplies. I like to have the object in my hands when i pay for it. Thats the only way you know for sure you will get it (ahem, ahem). But the only LHS anywhere near me is a 2 hour drive, 1 way. And with the price of fuel, i cant do it. Plus you would have to make a day out of it. Close to 4 hours drive time, and since i havent been in there yet i know i will be in there an hour or more. So 5 hours minimum. And what if he just so happensd does not have what i am looking for? All that time to come home empty handed.

All that time to come home empty handed. It would be tough not having a LHS close. Here in Ogden, Utah there's only one that's worth it's salt and even he doesn't have a real good stock of plastic models and such, so have to order from him. An order is usually only a 4 day turn around so that's not to bad. The store has just moved into a bigger place so maybe he will stock more plastic and supplies. If it wasn't for the one I use I would have to drive to Salt Lake which is an hour and that's half the time you spend on the road. I don't like driving to and around Salt Lake so I would probably be ordering off the net. Like you said, if you get there and they don't have it....time and gas wasted. The LHS's I have dealt with in this area seem to be gung ho for RC's but plastic is close to the bottom on the pole. Win

My LHS was forced to move from the shopping mall due to expansion. The "new" place is smaller, thus less items to choose from. In a lot of cases, i'm forced to shop on-line in order to get what i want and/or need.
