I have a Ford LNT8000 on the bench that I want to put some square tanks from Sourkraut on it. The question I have is: where does the Luberfiner go? With the round tanks, the kit has it mounted under the battery box; but that spot isn't available with the square tanks. Any ideas? Most truck pictures of Ford LNT8000s don't seen to have one. Are they optional?

I think the Luberfiner mount was optional. On all sorts of trucks I've seen it mounted all over the place. From under the hood, to being on the framerail behind the sleeper. I once saw a CF tractor with it behind the cab on a tower mount that had it up by the cab's roof. so I would say you should be able to put it wherever you wanted. Although, if you're modeling a later version, the Luberfiner wasn't used on as many trucks after awhile. I think they're still made. There is one on the market that looks just like it called the Gulf Coast Filter that does the same type of filtration. That one can also be mounted anywhere, upright or horizontal.

Ok, since my next two Fords will be a 1987 LNT8000 and a 1996 LT9000 I would be safe in leaving them off. But it sounds like I need to figure out these other filters.

But it sounds like I need to figure out these other filters. If you're referring 2 the Gulf Coast Filter I mentioned, it's a Luberfiner of a different name that's all.

The luberfiner was optional equipment. Ryder used to specify them on there rental fleet. With the great advances in spin on filter technology ( Down to 12 microns in some cases) the luberfiner has slowly disappeared (Thank God). The luberfiners on a LN series Ford were generally frame mounted at about a 45 degree angle to clear the bottom of the cab for servicing. I have also seen them mounted on other makes of truck Vertically but never horizontal.
