Due to the fact that I pulll a flatbed trailer, I was asked long ago to take pix of the loads I haul for reference by a member on another forum. I've been doing so. Over time I will post them. I decided that since the AMT Fruehauf flatbed is being re-released, it might be a good idea to get started on this thread. I like to display my flatbeds loaded. This should give you some ideas. Here is the cargo securement chapter of the company manual for my carrier. We mainly haul building materials, but we haul machiery, steel, vehicles and other things. I'll start with the text. The text includes some terminology, and a list of tie down requirements. As I dig through my pix, I will post pix of loads I have pulled, so you get a sense of how it's done.

Here is the page on shiny bar. It is often oil coated for transport to prevent rust. Makes it a bit gangerous to haul.

Ray,
Those are great! This should really help out a lot in detailing the loads for the flatbed.
What's a "hot rolled" coil? How is that different?

What's a "hot rolled" coil? How is that different? I honestly don't know. I've heard the term, but I've never been sure exactly waht it means.

Ray, Have you ever had to double tarp? Single tarping is a headache enough. But double tarping seems a bit over the top (no pun) to me. I only had to deal with covered wagons, or "Rag tops"

When do these loads go from "normal" to "over sized load"? Is it a weight limit, a width dimension, or a combination of the two?

Try wider, longer, higher firstly, "generally" the weight goes up with the size of the load.
