Tim If I am not mistaken that odd looking thing on your SBFA Mack is used for lifting van trailers and acts like a dump truck. I have seen them used in different junk yards and food processing plants. I used to haul scrap aluminum cans into a junk yard in Milwaukee, they had been blowen into a van trailer, when we got to the junk yard, we dropped the trailer and they hooked on to it with a Mack set up just like that, and took it into the scrap plant and raised up the trailer and dumped the load out of the trailer. There also used in a lot of potato processing plants for the same procedure. Jeff

Tim, what you have there on that Mack is a hydraulic lift for the 5th wheel. it's a conversion to make an old road tractor a yard horse. makes moving trailers around the yard/dock much easier than hooking up/cranking the landing gear on every trailer. just back up, hook up the emer. line (red) ,lift the trailer & put it where you want it. it saves alot of time/effort on the guy..

Hello Mr. Longhauler's comment is right on the money . they are used to make any trailer a dump trailer . they lift almost twice the height of the large vertical mount behind the cab. Used for more then just a simple yard goat.
