Do any of you have experience with 3D printing? And have you used it in your builds? About a year before I retired my company got into 3D printing. The things you can create are amazing and would relate so much to the type of modeling most of us are interested in doing. I am considering making the investment but I would have to brush up on my AutoCad skills to be able to make it worth my wild.
Please let me know your experiences, if any before I jump in with both feet and tick the wife off about spending money.

I dont but I am very interested in it as well This is a great topic to get some ideas tricks and learning tips here in one topic! I am currently checking them out but are a little to pricey, but im torn between that and a nice 3or4axis cnc.
I think the possibility is end less for both but the 3d printer is the way I think I am going to go!
Would like to see some program info for the printer and if it is a cad program or what.
Really would love both

I don't know a lot about 3d printing as only one person at work was in charge of the 3D printing and it wasn't me. But Rob (the guy in charge of it) showed me a little about it before I retired. He would take a standard multiview projection drawing and build it in AutoCAD. Then he would just simply send it to the printer and within a few minutes he would have the desired part in plastic. The company basically just used the printer for prototypes and to check form, fit, and function. I haven't used AutoCAD in about 5-6 years and then only as needed. So I would need to really brush up on AutoCAD to be effective. I don't know if they have other programs that will do the same job as AutoCAD but I hope so as an AutoCAD license is quite expensive even more so that the 3D printer I have been looking at. The printer I like is the Ultimaker 2 and it runs about $2500. But with the order I just placed with Micro-Mark I doubt the wife will let me have any more money until 2015 or later.
