Im painting one of my trucks with taimia ts-24 purple. ok its going to be purple and silver (no I dont like the viqueens). I know the silver will look great but the purple is coming out a bit dead looking. I love the color but its not verry bright or shiny so far after one coat. SO looking at my paint stash I noticed a can of model master gloss pearl clear coat. has anyone used this? will it add the shimmer im looking for? any issues with it and other paints? normaly I make up a test panel to check if the paints work together but wanted to see if anyone here has used this clear.
thanks for the help in advance. I love this place!

Christii If as you say your purple paint is coming out hazy and dead looking, you might be painting when theres a lot of huminity in the air, or using an old can of paint. I wouldn't worry to much about the dead look if your happy with the paint job so far.. When you get all your painting done and all coats applied and are happy with it. Take and put a coat of Future Floor Wax on it. You can brush it on or air brush it on. Let it dry throughly and you will have the nice shine you are looking for. If you are going to be using decals on your project you can either put them on under and or over the Future. I prefer to put the under as it will work as a sealent for the decals. ;D Longhaul a.k.a. The Model Master Clear WILL lift the tamiya!! You need to clear coat with X22 first and then use the Model Master in very light coats (almost dry). Because of the light coat, it will leave a rough texture...you'll have to polish the paint with paint polish (may have to wetsand with 2000 grit first)

that was the info i was looking for. I think I will wait a couple weeks till it gets cold and the humidity goes down. or fire my dehumidifier back up. I thought it was dry enough to have it off.
fyi longhaul the name is ChrisII as in "2" it seems everywhere I go there is already a Chris . I picked the name up working production for a rock band. the lead singer was also named Chris. so I was just known as "2". I think ill change that here as for some reason this forum changes all names to small case.

Generally speaking you can not polish out a pearl with out losing the shimmer effect. You would have to apply your pearl coat then apply another clear coat then polish it out.

well I gave up on the pearl on this build its already my most complicated to date. it will have the AMT cab stretched frame, 6 foot long sleeper (still not a stand up), and an italeri wrecker bed. its my first time useing timiya paints, and I have read that they like heavy coats to shine up good. I have done a test piece and this paint seems to take standard testors clear, so I will be using that on the whole body. the silver im using is testors.
