I'm planing my LN build,if it wins the vote it's a bonus. In doing research I've found both Cummins and Detroit's painted Ford engine blue. My question is were the trucks like this or was it for advertising purposes only?

Ford usually painted all their engines blue until somewhere in the early eighty's, when Ford produced engines started to be painted gray. At this time vendor engines were left their specific colors. Ford did offer Detroit diesels, but that had to be a bitter sell as Detroit was owned by G.M. at the time! Detroit diesel was sold to Roger Penske and subsequently to Freightliner (Daimler Benz). Do a search for engine colors, this topic was covered extensively a few months ago. Hope that was of some help.

Interesting, as I never knew that Ford was another mfg painting the engines in the truck mfg's color except the 3208. I thought maybe the 3208 was made just for Ford at first so that's why I never thought about the others. Thanks guys, interesting info.

Every new Ford L series I seen in the late 70's with a cat in it had the engine in correct cat yellow. Now when you got into the F series Ford, such as the 700 and 800 series, the engines I saw were ford blue and later grey including the International diesels that showed up in them quite often in the 80's.

I just found a photo of a 1978 with a cummins painted beige. The latest brochure I've seen with a good hood open shot is 1976,that cummins was blue.I like the blue so thats what I'm using whether it's just a promo colour or not.
