I'm no master builder but, I would strongly suggest that you put the cab together before painting. If you paint then glue together you will have one big mess from the glue getting into the paint no matter how careful you are. I say this from experience from a long time back. I did one model that the cab/sleeper had to be put together in pieces and as I remember, I used "line of sight" to keep it square.
Luck to you. Win

Put the cab together BUT leave one side of the back unglued. Set the floor in place DO NOT GLUE to square up the cab walls. When the glue has dried and the parts are straight you can pull the rear corner that wasn't glued apart just enough to remove the floor panel. Most of the Italeri kits I've done this way and had no problems. Once painted and ready for final assembly ( adding interior parts ) slip the floor back in the way you took it out then glue the unglued seam to seal the cab solid. It has worked for me plenty of times and you don't see the seam afterwards because the sleeper usually covers it or a exhaust stack. Just my suggestion that works for me. Hope it works for you if you want to try it.

I like to assemble as much as possible on a kit before I paint a given color. As has beend said, you need to be carefull that you can get other parts in place afterwards. I hate to glue parts that are painted because it is way too easy to mess things up, then you have to start over again.

I assemble the cab leaving either roof or floor out. If the roof is to be a separate color, I will leave it off, but install the floor.
Same for sleeper boxes. It is much easier to paint an entire part separately than masking it later.

i put the cab together and leave the floor and roof off.same with the sleeper i put the frame together and do all the mods to it and mock up before i paint it. makes for a nicer finish. its easier to do the inner cab details then slide them in.
