Kerry, That is a good way to make the hinges, But you might want to consider using some small dia brass rod, That is what I did on my excavator tracks. It worked out well for a first effort. But you are doing some really nice work on this crane. Have you thought about what color you are going to paint the inside of the upper (cab ) Most of the ones I have seen were a white or really light grey inside. to make it easier to see to work on them. I think the inside of the operators cab on your would be red like the exterior. not sure though! Up to you.
Later Gator

Gator, I really haven't given it much thought but in the pictures I took, the inside is a like medium gray, so I think I'll paint it that color. Since my trailer is a yellow, I was thinking of painting the exterior a flat red. Should look good. Maybe just a touch of flat white mixed into the red. Just a smell. But as far as the hinges, I used the bread tie as the brass rod I don't have. With the size of the tiny hole I drilled the bread tie fit really good. Kerry

Hey Gator, thanks dude. Did you happen to notice the one shoe of the track in the background above? I think it is much better than before. Hope your doing well. Kerry I noticed it! It looks like a real one. Cloning it will bring the tracks up to the standard the rest of the model is setting. Dan

Hey folfs, Well I didn't get to do too much this weekend with all the other activities going on but I did have about an hour or so to make some valves (I assume that's what they are) and rough in the operators seat. You can't really see it too well but I also roughed in the glass for the window that the picture was taken through. So maybe next weekend will be more productive. But Dan I agree with you and I really have to take it easy and not get in too much of a rush with those tracks. I wish I had the equipment to cast them but.......until then I'll keep doing. Thanks for looking and be well. Kerry

Hi Kerry
Looks great with the checkerplate flooring. Lots of detail going into this build and really setting it off well.

Thanks Nige, did you understand about the hinges? Hi Kerry It is true that a picture does say a thousand words so if you were good enough to make a new hinge to show how. Would be appreciated. I think your hinges are slightly bigger than those I would like for the lockers, but it would be great to see how you did yours for future. Thanks Nige

I was at work today and was thinking about how I was going to make the levers for this machine and came up with an idea so I worked on this tonight just to see what and if I could make this. I think it turned out pretty good. Now two and a half more to go.

Hello guys, Well I did get some more work done on my crane and it is coming along as I continued working on the inside of the cab with making the lever section with the first photo and please remember that most of these parts are not finished and still need some more work. Then I started working on the counter weight area and putting a few things together and getting a feel of what is needed all in all I think it's shaping up pretty good Theres still much work to be done on it but I reached a point that things need to dry very well before work can continue, like sanding and filing. I also tried a idea I had on the roof. I think it will work with some patients and sanding. With only one side tacked together I feel it will work. Nige, I did tell you that I would show you how I made my hinges and maybe this should go to a different thread but I am putting it here. But in the first photo I cut two pieces of stock to the size I am using and remember that your hinges will probably differ in size and shape but the technic is still the same. But my hinges are of this size and general shape. Next I trimed them to the shape I want and cleaned them up a bit. Next I cut them in half making each side of the hinge and sizing up the rod that I will use for this. The rod was selected and I will use this drill to make the hole down the length of the rod. Now being very careful and slow I drilled the hole until it is to the width of the hinge After the hole is drilled I then cut the rod into three parts leaving the middle piece the longer of the three, But rememebr you are cutting a very thin piece of plastic so care is in order for this or the tube will close up from the pressure. A sharp knife is really good. Then I carefully glue the pieces of rod to the corresponding sides of the hinges and while they are still alittle wet I jion them with the wire and allow them to dry so as to keep them straight and in workable order. Later of course I cut and trimed the wire and added some bolt heads and such and the hinges are ready to work. I hope this helps you Nige and let me know if I can help in any way. Thanks for looking and until the next time Kerry

Kerry, Your are making some nice progress. I like your hinge idea, I did something similar on the tracks for my excavator. It was a real PITA! As I am sure you have realized by now.
