When I bought this kit I couldn´t make up my mind. The title on the box says "378" while the box art shows the 379. The parts are for the 378. But Mr. Red Oval tought us how to convert the 378 into the 379 -119. I followed his instructions and changed the hood. I also modified the firewall as it is partially mirror-inverted by Italeri. The front springs are asymetrical for whatever reason in the kit. I used only the middle part and added the leafs of my own. Two on each side is enough for a highway tractor. I extended the frame up to WB 270" to get enough room for additional equipment that I plan to use. That´s it for the start. Comments, criticism and ideas are welcome. Jarda

Great work so far, Jarda. I like the mods you've done to the hood & cab. A lot of work, but well worth it in the end. Can't say as I've ever seen a green Series60 before (they're usually blue), but that doesn';t mean that they don't exist.

Great work so far, Jarda. I like the mods you've done to the hood & cab. A lot of work, but well worth it in the end. Can't say as I've ever seen a green Series60 before (they're usually blue), but that doesn';t mean that they don't exist. Well, Jim, I always sensed the DD 60 Series as something between green and blue. Sometimes closer to green, sometimes closer to blue depending on the light conditions. I tried to capture this shade: Now a little progress on the frame. The tie rods in Italeri Peterbilt kits are kinda soft, easy to bend. This one bended the moment I cut it off the sprue. I replaced it with a 1,5mm steel wire using only the plastic ends. I plumbed the frame with different wires and "simulated corrugated duct" by Turner Model Manufactory. The quick release valves are home made just as the towing hook, and the height control valve. I hope the pictures will be better after the frame is painted. The white parts are too shiny and don´t reveal much of a detail. Jarda

Thank you very much, friends. I was thinking of a colour for the frame. I wanted to try a different colour than usual black. But I want a dark blue for the cab so I stuck with the black again. Along with this build I´m also working on a DTU. It´s gonna be a complete scratchbuild. Probably not 100 percent accurate but I hope I am able to avoid any serious mistakes. Holmes unit is my inspiration. I found their brochure on the net, plus some pictures. Using Evergreen channels and plastic warning signs (basicly 1mm sheets) I built the base. Still a lot of details to be added. The colour is a bit goofy... originally it was a blue sheet with white letters on it. I have to add a few parts to it before it goes to the paint booth. Jarda

you should cast the dtu and sell them Actually, I was offered the same thing by a guy who makes high quality castings here in my country. The trouble is that my reference material is only based on the internet pictures and the Holmes brochure. No blueprints, no dimensions. The subframe gauge, the boom length and cross section size, the underlift dimensions... everything is just estimated. I would not feel happy if the castings had wrong shape and dimensions. Now it is only me who may end up with a scrap. I do not want anybody else to have possibly a wrong product made by me. Right now I am working on the underlift hydraulic cylinder and try to find the location of the mounting point inside the tower so that the whole assembly would work. A trial and error method. Thanks, Jarda
